First Hatch at Berkeley, Annie was on duty!

Alden stopped by and you can see him from the nest cam just outside the nest at the beginning of the 11:00 hour, but he never went in. They just talked. The chick is dry and fluffy and opening its beak to be fed. The egg next to it may have a tiny crack, but no actual pip seen.

Alden to the nest at 14:07 and stood looking at the chick with his back to us. He went to the chick at 14:10 and soon took off as the chick had its beak open to be fed. Annie returned at 14:14. No feeds yet.

Mom arrives with food at 15:17, then soon begins the 1st feed. The chick was knocked over onto its back, but rolled right back up into position! It was a blocked feed and could not actually see the bites going in and being swallowed, but Mom's motions made me think the chick was getting at least some of the actual bites and not Mom. However, the chick had its beak open for more food after Mom left. She left with the remains at 15:21. The egg on the left had a depressed looking area on it in the sun, however it didn't when in the shadow of Mom.

2nd feed at 17:43. Mom had several bites. Chick did not seem as enthusiastic about this feed, but Mom kept giving it bites. It started to slump, but Mom gave more and then it did slump and the feed was over. Mom broods and incubates at 17:48.

3rd feed. It sounded as though Alden brought something to eat and Mom went to meet him and came back and fed the chick at 21:58, then left with the remains in less than 2 minutes. This time I think the chick was ready for more as it kept its beak up and open after she left. Then, Mom back to brood. I could see what looks to be the same possible depressed area on the egg now to the right even though it is dark now, so maybe it is something.

Alden to the ledge with prey at 6:01 and Annie went out to retrieve, then flew around with it a bit while Alden stays put. Finally she flies back to ledge and down to the nest, then Alden flies out and Annie feeds both chicks.

Saw Alden come into the nest a couple times early this afternoon to stand guard while Annie took some breaks. Early this evening could hear him come in and pass off prey to her and she fed both chicks, although 1 received more than the other. Both were slumped after the feed. No pips seen these views of the 3rd egg.

Alden brought in another meal at 21:29 and Annie did a primarily blocked feed, but did see both get bites at the end and Annie ate some of this meal too.

They feed late and start early here. Per the DVR, from cam 1 you can hear Alden arrive with prey at 4:13 and Annie leaves to retrieve and back to feed a minute later. It was a partially blocked feed, but it seemed only one was getting all the bites as the other was not in a good position and was down for most of it and didn't try to get up. Nothing of interest seen in this lighting with the egg. Alden remains on the ledge at 5:25 on cam 2 where Annie took the prey from him previous.

Caught another feed late morning with the largest chick overwhelmingly getting the most bites. Saw the smaller one get 4-5 bites. Annie had bites, also. There was also a short blocked, feed at 6 something this morning after the feed above.

At 18:13, Alden leaned down and beaked one of his chicks which was so cute. Annie had left previous at 18:01 when it sounded like Alden was making a prey delivery. Alden did not remain in view of the nest cam the whole time she was gone.

Mom in at 18:18 to feed, but left as the chicks were asleep. Before they fell asleep, they had been holding their beaks open to be fed while she was gone. Then she popped right back in with the prey and back out again. She broods at 18:20.

Mom left at 18:53 and returned for a blocked feed at 18:58 that was over at 19:05 and she left with the remains. Could see a crop on the smallest chick and the bigger one was positioned that I would not be able to see, but it is the one that usually gets most of the bites. Mom back at 19:07 to brood and incubate. No pip seen this view of the egg.

The feedings have gone to "around the clock" at Berkeley!! At 2:47 am, you could hear vocals from Alden and Annie went out and retrieved the prey from him and back in to feed! Both chicks got bites. Then at 5:50 am you could hear Alden's vocals again and Annie left and returned at 5:52 and fed the chicks. This feed was blocked from view.
