FORT WAYNE (AEP) 2021 and 2022

Both of the girls are hanging around their nest box preening, although sometimes one (Nova, I think) goes into a frenzy flapping her wings… And they are scouring the skies for a supper delivery…

Kiri and Nova are again hanging around the nestbox area…and this time I saw the food delivery…Mom brought in a prepped chunk of prey, and it was devoured by the girls in less than a minute. I was just thinking of all the times I have seen a sibling grab the prey and run, leaving the parent with nothing for the sibling. I have not seen any of that (yet). They are still allowing mom to beak feed them.

All is quiet at the moment. Kiri has been doing a lot of wandering, sometimes gone for more than an hour. Nova is hanging around the nestbox more, hoping for food, I think… I think Nova has a loose feather on her left wing, I hope it doesn’t cause problems when she chooses to fledge. Both mom and dad have been in and out. Are they demonstrating how to take off for the girls?

Well, I saw both girls earlier this morning…Right now a parent is sitting next to the cam, and evidently one of the girls has made her way to the top of “Roosevelt’s Wall” and in the shadow on the wall I see she is flapping those wings. Their boy cousins in Mississauga, Ontario have each made a fledge attempt and were each returned the roof of their building. I’m kind of wondering if one of Moxie’s girls won’t take the plunge today….

The cam has been turned back halfway to the nestbox…..does that mean they have fledged? I guess the cam has been turned back like that all night. About from 6:00am to 7:00 am I see one juvie up on the wall. I’ve contacted Soarin’ Hawk to see if they have any information….
Reply from Soarin’ Hawk : ”Im not sure if Nova has fledged or not. I’m heading down to that area shortly so Ill be making a post later this afternoon about the goings on. Nova is very close to fledging. She was on a lower ledge yesterday with Moxie, and Moxie was trying to entice Kiri down to that ledge with food.”

All is calm at Fort Wayne! Soarin’ Hawk offered these observations on Facebook: Nova has fledged and Kiri remained on the building Saturday, but they expected Kiri to join Nova in fledging. They also posted pictures of the nestbox area to give viewers some perspective of where they were when we couldn’t see them. View it on the Soarin’ Hawk Facebook page. The cam has been turned outward more again. Jamie came for a visit, looked at his feet and took off.

We have a parent, Jamie?, up in cam view, seeming to be watching something very exciting! He sways this way and that, swivels his head around and gives his best peregrine daddy cheer! Then he lifts up his wings and flaps them, one, two, three, four times like a juvie doing wingercize.... and off he goes to chase his family... :15heartbeat:

Well, I guess Nova and Kiri must both be doing very well. This afternoon, both mom and dad made an appearance at the ledge. First Jamie came in, then Moxie. They went straight to the nestbox for some out of sight bonding, which lasted quite a while…Then Jamie left, and Moxie stayed behind, preening.

Crazy weather in Indiana and Ohio and Racine and Evanston and (especially_ Chicago yesterday evening and night.

The top of this system was well over 25 kilometers up in the atmosphere, very unusual.

Double WOW! We did not have anything like either of these storms.

It is just hot and muggy. I am outside waiting for the bats to appear and start eating these mosquitos! The bluejays were teaching the juvies to fly and were they ever making a racket!
Otherwise a peaceful night.

A bit of good news about Fort Wayne’s fledglings, I received this message from Mary Koher, of Soarin’ Hawk Rescue : “ Somebody contacted us yesterday that they are on the 10th floor of the I&M (nest box home) building , and here Miss Nova was just chilling out on the ledge outside of her office window!!!”
