I think that was Green at the end of the building earlier. I can't figure out which one is on the ledge now between the stick and the column. I would love to go downtown tonight, but the heat here is brutal.

I missed the beginning of this, but about half an hour ago Green was over near the column with food. I don't know where he got it, but he mowed off the entire thing. Afterwards he visited the scrape briefly, was on the stick, but now gone. He had a nice full crop.

Thanks for the pictures and video. Loza. Yesterday afternoon a gal from our local Audubon posted pictures of Niecey and one of the juvies on the roof of a high rise apartment building about two blocks away. They are on the falcon blog on Facebook, but I don't know how to post them on here. And at about this same time yesterday afternoon, both juvies were on the nest ledge.

I think Harrisburg's fireworks are tonight. If the juvies are roosting where they have been, they will not be able to see them, but certainly will be able to hear them. I remember a bunch of years ago several of us were on the garage roof to see how the juvies reacted to the fireworks. They were horrified, and flying around in the dark. I will not subject myself to that worry in person again. i can hear fireworks right now, but they are from a local park.

What a treat to see two juvies on the ledge. I don't know how long they were there, but I watched them for at least 20 minutes, and they both took off at the same time. I'd guess they saw an adult with food. Fireworks are TONIGHT starting at 9:15.

Niecey spent a LONG time either in the scrape or on the shield this evening. At one point 85 showed up on the point for a while. A few minutes ago Green showed up on the ledge and chased Niecey from the shield. He only stayed a few minutes and then flew off.

:15heartbeat: I think this was reported first in Washington DC in May or maybe a little before. It involves several other states in the east and now includes the states of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, so heading westward and southward. Below they state their concern for the falcons at the Harrisburg nest. From Falcon Wire News

Falcon Wire News
7/6/2021 :: Songbird Mortality Event
Information From the Pennsylvania Game Commission
Wildlife health experts from the Wildlife Futures Program (WFP) at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) and officials from the Pennsylvania Game Commission are investigating more than 70 general public reports of songbirds that are sick or dying due to an emerging health condition that is presently unknown.
As of July 1, 2021, reports from the public chronicle both adult and young birds exhibiting signs of the condition. The most common clinical symptoms include discharge and/or crusting around the eyes, eye lesions, and/or neurologic signs such as falling over or head tremors.
Affected birds are being tested for several toxins, parasites, bacterial diseases, and viral infections. To date, test results have been inconclusive.
Twelve species have been reported: Blue Jay, European Starling, Common Grackle, American Robin, Northern Cardinal, House Finch, House Sparrow, Eastern Bluebird, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadee, and Carolina Wren.
:15heartbeat: This is of concern to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Falcon Cam followers since the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) peregrine falcons do feed on some of the songbirds listed above. DEP will continue to monitor the 15th floor ledge. Should the falcons show any signs of disease the PA Game Commission will be contacted to determine the best path forward.
In Pennsylvania, the reports have been received from 27 counties, including:
Philadelphia, and Bucks, Montgomery, Chester counties: 15 reports
Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, York counties: 19 reports
Numerous reports have also been received across the United States including the Mid-Atlantic region, extending into the Southeast and eastern upper Midwest. Affected birds were first reported in and around Washington, D.C.
The public is encouraged to report any sightings of birds that have died and/or birds that have been seen with swollen and crusty eyes, as well as neurological signs such as stumbling and head tremors. Report the incident online at: http://www.vet.upenn.edu/.../res.../wil ... es-program.
Experts are also encouraging the public to follow these FIVE precautionary measures until more is known:
-- Cease feeding birds and providing water in bird baths until this wildlife mortality event has concluded to prevent potential spread between birds and to other wildlife.
-- Clean feeders and bird baths with a 10% bleach solution.
-- Avoid handling dead or injured wild birds. Wear disposable gloves if it's necessary to handle a bird.
-- Keep pets away from sick or dead birds as a standard precaution.
-- To dispose of dead birds, place them in a sealable plastic bag and discard with household trash. This will prevent disease transmission to other birds and wildlife.
Visit pgc.pa.gov to find the latest information on the PA Game Commission website.

It is a big concern about the mystery bird illness that is affecting our area and other places. Most of the birds on that list are things that the falcons eat, although I'm not sure about Chickadees and Wrens. There are a LOT of Grackles in downtown Harrisburg. On another note, Green stopped in on the ledge about half an hour ago. stayed about five minutes before flying off.

First time I've seen a juvie on the ledge in the morning in a while. i thought it was Yellow, but not quite sure. The juvie took off a few minutes ago and looked like it flew up to the roof of the Carson Building.

Thanks for posting that picture from this afternoon, Terka. Later this afternoon Yellow was on the stick when it was getting very windy. A gust nearly blew him off the stick, and he flew to the shield briefly. He didn't stat y there long and it looked like he flew over to the U Building. The rain has cooled it off here, but it is VERY humid.

Spent several hours downtown this evening with two friends. I can't remember everything, but for the longest time we watched Yellow sitting on the stick. He looked SO majestic sitting there. Eventually Green flew in from somewhere and landed on the Carson roof. They both took turns chasing Niecey off "the fridge". Only saw 85 briefly on top of 333. We had to leave before it got too dark, but at that point neither juvie had come in to roost for the night.

Green spent quite a bit of time on the ledge this afternoon. I did not see how it happened, but he managed to get that curved piece of wood that had been on the shield out of the scrape, and was having a blast playing with it. He did have it on the main ledge near the stick, but now it's resting up against the stick on the column side. Too bad nobody got a video of this. Green flew off around 6:15.
