:penguin: Carolyn Evans posted on the BCAW Facebook page that the WE cams are on! No Pleasant Prairie (was it demolished?) but Weston has been added to the regulars, along with another that I’m not familiar with....

Tom Cade, a Savior of the Peregrine Falcon, Dies at 91

"Tom J. Cade around 1975 with one of the peregrine falcons he bred in captivity. Starting in the late 1960s, Dr. Cade rallied falconers, conservationists, universities, businesses and more to reintroduce the peregrine falcon in areas where it had once thrived."

Our View: Falcon nests solve problems

At the top of one of the steam towers of Liberty Utilities' State Line Road plant, there's an open black box fronted by a perch. Three such boxes will be installed at Liberty plants before the end of the month, and officials hope they'll soon be home to peregrine falcons.

The peregrine falcon eats other birds such as pigeons, which is why Liberty is particularly eager to attract them.

But there's another problem being addressed here, one that could affect all aspects of our ecosystem. The peregrine falcon is currently endangered in the state of Missouri, and Liberty's nest boxes, courtesy of the Missouri Department of Conservation, are just one small piece of the puzzle to help re-establish the species in the Midwest.

An eagle crashed through her living room window in Kodiak. Then she had to shoo it out of the house.

WOW! I will be in Alaska with my sister this summer. While I hope to see many eagles, along with bears, salmon running, and moose, I hope my encounters are not quite this up close and personal.

I saw that a few days ago. Her grumpy little face made a lot of people smile.

Maine's oldest-known bald eagle dies after breaking leg :tissue:
The bird had to be euthanized, after suffering a broken leg on Friday

FREEDOM, Maine —
The oldest-known bald eagle in Maine had to be euthanized on Saturday.

Avian Haven, a wild bird rehabilitation center in Freedom, says the bald eagle had suffered a broken leg. Experts with the non-profit weren't sure how the injury happened, but eventually were forced to put her down.

She was brought to Avian Haven when the Maine Warden Service found her in April of 2017. The bald eagle was believed to be nearly 36 years old. The average lifespan for such a bird is roughly 15 to 20 years, according to experts.

Avian Haven said in a Facebook post that she was well-fed and cared for, adding that she leaves behind four young eagles whom she fostered over the last two years.

Vilas Co. deputies add lead-free ammo to utility belts, hoping to cut down on accidental eagle poisoning :penguin:
"It's our national bird and look what we're doing to it and it's very easily preventable," Naniot said.

That's a mindset Vilas County Sheriff's Lt. Greg Fulton respects.

"[One of our detectives was] pretty adamant on us coming up with an alternative," Fulton said.

Fulton estimates his patrol deputies need to euthanize more than 100 deer hit by cars along roadsides every year. At that detective's request, Fulton did some research into non-toxic ammo.
