So....am I removing "Save" or leaving "Save"?...I've never had a problem with it, but if the majority have, then we can decide if it should be removed....

just let me know...

I prefer keeping "save" so that we can do drafts, but I don't use it very often, so if a number of others want it removed, that's OK with me...

I'm with catwoman. I'd prefer to keep it for those times I get interrupted in the middle of writing a long post and want to save what I've written so far. (If the 'save' button is removed, the only alternative is to open up a text editor and copy/paste a draft post there to save it for later. But...I'm willing to do that if the 'save' button is causing problems for many of our posters.)

I'm having a problem with the size of the new year message box -- it is so wide, I have to open entire screen to see date/time/who posted.

I usually have the window 1/2 open with our bird cams in the other half....can we make it so if window is half open we don't lose the other half ????

:mrgreen:

Hi Joanne....are you talking about the index page? I haven't changed any of the forum dimensions, only added the small border...right now I'm showing the forum width to be approximately 940 pixels wide...I can make it smaller, but then I'll need to reduce the size of the pics we post. joanne, make sure you're viewing the page at 100% and not higher..

Anyone else having any problems?

Joanne, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are referring to the screen when you open a Private Message. It can be excessively wide if you have recently received a really large image via PM. If so, go back and delete the message that contained the large image, and then all your PMs will open in the regular size.

I bet you're right, Susan...hopefully, joanne will get back with us...

Another question everyone...There is a way to include a birthday list on the forum. right now I have it disabled. The way it works is that if you have listed your birthday in your profile, the phpbb software will pick that up and display member birthdays at the appropriate time. If you don't wish to have your B-day displayed, then you don't list it in your profile and visa versa...(at least I think that's how it works--never tried it before)

So if I could get some feedback on that, this would be a good time to start if we want to do it...

thanks..

Sure, go for it! That would be fun!

I second that :lol: In the User Control Panel - - -> Profile - - -> Edit profile you fill in the day and month, the year is not required. :wink:

I agree! If its not a pain to set up, that would be nice! I always feel bad when I find out someone on the forum has had a birthday & I didn't know it... ;)

Before if I had the window in forum 1/2 size I could see the date & poster. I never keep the window wide open. Maybe it's a "wraparound" thingie? :oops:

Joanne, we need a bit more information to help you with your page width issue.

1. When you say "message box" what exactly do you mean? Is it the screen when you open a PM? Is it the page when you are reading postings inside a forum? Something else?

2. When you say you "usually have the window 1/2 open" how are you doing that? Are you dragging the side of the screen in? Are you resetting the % of window open? Something else?

The only thing I can think that changed on or around the new year was the addition of the blue frame around the page . . . perhaps it does not allow for collapsing the page as much as before . . . ?

Susan, I appreciate your help.

I'm speaking of this area where we post our pix.....and our "thoughts"...it's too wide!

It was collapsible before as I keep my screen/window 1/2 size (because I may have 7-15 other windows open the same time). I just clicked to go below for another line.

I just noticed it does "wraparound" when you reply. It's the finished message that is too wide and I have to move window over to see when it was posted.

At least replying works good!!!!
:o

Maybe it is because there is a minimum width built in for the body, wrapheader, wrapfooter and wrapcenter ?
I tried it on my test-forum and there I have set the body width to 80% and no specifications for the the other elements.
Now I can make it very narrow and still see all of the message, without scrolling sideways.

css for this forum:
Code:
body {
   /* Text-Sizing with ems: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/348/ */
   font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
   color: #323D4F;
   background-image: url('http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz79/skygirlblue09/holidays/forum%20backgrounds%20and%20graphics/owlcreatedbackground009.jpg')
;
   font-size: 62.5%; /* This sets the default font size to be equivalent to 10px */
   margin: 0 auto;
         background-color: #FFFFFF;
         Border-width: 5px;
         Border-style: solid;
         Border-color: #1679AA;
         min-width: 940px;
         max-width: 1080px

}

#wrapheader {
   min-height: 120px;
          min-width: 940px;
          max-width: 1080px;
          margin: auto;
   height: auto !important;
   height: 120px;
/*   background-image: url('./images/background.gif');
   background-repeat: repeat-x;*/
/*   padding: 0 25px 15px 25px;*/
   padding: 0;
        background-color: #ECECEC;
}

#wrapcentre {
   margin: auto;
         margin: 15px 25ps 0 25px;*/
         min-width: 940px;
         max-width: 1080px;

}

#wrapfooter {
   text-align: center;
   clear: both;
        width: 940px;
         margin: auto;

}

css for my testforum:
Code:
body {
       /* Text-Sizing with ems: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/348/ */
       font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
       color: #323D4F;
       background-image: url('http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad119/AmelandseI/test%20forums/kuikjecutout003-1.gif');
       background-color: #E6FFB0;
       font-size: 62.5%; /* This sets the default font size to be equivalent to 10px */
       margin: 0 auto;
       border-width: 10px;
       border-style: solid;
       border-color: #669900;
       width: 80%

}

#wrapheader {
   min-height: 120px;
   height: auto !important;
   height: 163px;
/*   padding: 5px 0px 5px 0px;*/
   padding: 0;
        background-color: #F4FFDF;
}

#wrapcentre {
   margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
        padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px;
        background-color: #F4FFDF;
}

#wrapfooter {
   text-align: center;
   clear: both;
        background-color: #F4FFDF;
}

For this forum the body has these values:
min-width: 940px;
max-width: 1080px

And those values are repeated in the specs for the wraps.
For my test-forum the body specs are: width: 80% and no specs for the wraps.
On my test-forum the header is "disappearing at the right side, but that is caused by the logo picture. I was thinking of putting the logo in as a background for the wrap header. That way it should not interfere with the width at all.

Take a look if you like: I "played" around a little with a different colour scheme too :wink:
You can even post a message as a guest. In case you might want to try it out . . . :lol:

Thanks DEF....

but ladies....I have changed nothing...I have always had a min/max width to accomodate the large pictures we post....Now, if we want to reduce the picture sizes, then I can set to 80% OR a 400 minumum width or as skinny as you want the forum....OR....we can keep the same picture size and not worry that the right margin becomes distorted when the width of the forum is decreased. Right now, some of the pictures that are posted are 700-800 pixels wide. If you are viewing a page with pictures that wide, it doesn't matter what width I set the forum to, you will never be able to reduce the width to anything smaller than what it is now...those pictures prevent the page width from decreasing. since I haven't changed anything, I can remove the border and see if that makes any difference for you, joanne...if it doesn't, then something is going on with the settings on your computer..

FYI....I have just measured the width of the forum. It is 940 pixels wide. If I decrease the width, the bottom scroll bar appears...just as intended...

You are absolutely right about the width of the posted images SKB. No matter what the default width of the forum is, when a large picture is posted, the forum can not get smaller than that size.
