The purpose of Froona’s Corner is twofold:

First and foremost, it is to honor her memory and to recognize and celebrate the passion she exuded when talking about her beloved falcons. She was a very active member of our forum for over a year….and though her primary responsibility was De Mortel, the Slechtvalken forum in the Netherlands, and for a short time, Derby Cathedral Falcons, she found the time to enlighten, support, and share with each of us. The time difference between the US and the Netherlands never interfered with her participation in this forum, whether it be a hatching chick or the loss of a juvenile….she was always with us. For those of you new to this forum, Froona died this past Spring (2009)…and we deeply felt her absence during this past nesting season.

In Froona’s own words:

    "Hello,

My name is Froona, born, raised and still living in the Netherlands. From my grandfather as well as both my parents I inherited the love for birds. And as a child I went birdwatching with my grandfather very many times.

Even as a young girl everything concerning biology, physics and chemistry was fascinating for me, so I was educated as a bio-chemist. I specialised in Heamatology ( blood and bonemarrow), Bacteriology and Celbiology.

It was not untill 2005 that I got really interested in the Peregrine Falcon. Ever since the first webcam images from the peregrine nest in The Mortel in the Netherlands where transmitted, I started to study this fascinating and beautiful bird. I took some courses in Ornithology and Veterinary Science to know more about its anatomy, and the avian anatomy in general.

In July of 2007 year I decided to write everything down about the Peregrine in a logical order. Not as a book, but as a website, so I can add many photo´s and video´s. First in Dutch, and when it is finished I will translate it into English so this very extensive datebase about the peregrine falcon will be available for everybody.

I'm very happy some well known international photographers are cooperating, so I am free to use their amazing photo´s of the peregrine falcon.

I hope this website will enlighten many people all around the world about this magnificent magical and majestic bird of prey, which has stolen my heart.

I love the peregrine, there's something magical about this creature from heaven.

I'm sharing my life with 7 beautiful cats: my spiritual compagnons.

    Froona~"

Which leads to the Second reason for Froona’s corner…To Educate. Froona loved to share her knowledge and insight about the Peregrine Falcon. In the following topic areas you will be able to read some of the things she shared with us. She answered our questions, listened to our concerns, was patient when we didn't understand, and laughed when we educated her on the nuances and "quirks" of the English language and the American sense of humor. Froona embraced our passion and we hers as we jouneyed together into the world of the peregrine falcon. She poured this wealth of knowledge into her website, Falco Pereginus. Her dream of an English version is slowly coming to fruition, thanks to the dedication and love of Ruud, who worked closely with her prior to her death. You can watch this transformation in the “Ruud’s Announcement” topic area.

We were blessed and fortunate to have known Froona....but, even though she is no longer with us, her knowledge and passion is. She gave that to us...and that is her legacy. It is our turn to share and to educate...and that, in part, is the essence of the BCAW Forum.

Thank you, Froona....we miss you.
