No sign of Mandy Rose at the nest yesterday, but today there was an early afternoon visit:

And home for the night:

Alison, is there a good way to tell these two apart at Black Dog?

SHERCO UPDATE
In other news, we are going to be working with Xcel Energy on getting the cams and video up and operational. Bob believes he has found a really good wireless system that we plan to test at Sherco next week, so keep an eye out for that cam to come back online

I think we are only seeing Mandy Rose at the nest for now. I haven't seen the male for a while, although I think he is around, judging from the apparent communication going on (as in yesterday's first pic).

Mandy Rose has a malar stripe which is rounded at the bottom and is fairly wide all the way down. The male has a malar stripe which angles slightly backwards, and tapers from the top down. He also has very big eyes.

Both have a purple band on the right leg and black/green on the left, which doesn't help. I was hoping I would be able to read bands with this new, better cam and larger pic, but so far I can't.

Both have apparently been seen in the area since the fire last year, so as far as I know, they are both okay.

This probably doesn't help much . . .

This is Mandy Rose, returning home tonight: you can see her rounded malar stripe. Her band number is 30/D.

Alison, is Mandy Rose by any chance 30/B's sister? I'm thinking maybe she is because of the band numbers... :flirty:

Mandy Rose was born in 2004 at the Monticello Plant, Monticello, Wright County, Minnesota. Her father's identity is unknown. Her mother (FWS band number 1807-49762) is the famous falcon Camilla, born in 1994 at the Colonnade Building in Minneapolis. Camilla's first mate was *B/*1 from 2001 t0 2003. From 2004 on the male was not identified.

30/B was born in 2002 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Her parents are unknown.

And 30/E is Speedy, the last daughter of the iconic Mae of the King Plant and her mate Doug, born in 2003, and last known to be at the Colonnade Building. I don't know if she is still there.

So I don't think that 30/B and 30/D could be related.

Mandy Rose home for the night:

Something else I look at with Mandy Rose is the amount of black on her beak, and also the shape of her beak in profile - second and third pics.

Thanks for answering my question about the possible relationship of Mandy Rose and 30/B, Alison. So the 30 series was used for different nests & in different years. :-?

Alison, thanks for the ID tips :P This would be Mandy Rose then, because of the beak.

Mandy Rose left the nest very early this morning, and returned in the late afternoon:

The first pic below almost looks like the male - big eyes and a tapered, more slender malar stripe - but within minutes Mandy Rose was definitely the one at the nest.

The last pic also looks a little like the male - but the pics before and after it definitely showed Mandy Rose. A pale purple band is visible on the right leg.
