Unfortunately, we may not see any activity at the nest box this season. The State Tower Bldg. is being rehabbed during the month of March. They have had a tarp (or something) over the ledge in front of the nest box all winter. I guess we are going to have to go looking around to see if we can find where Fancy is setting up shop!

However, on Saturday, I did see both of them at the nest box for a while.

Yeah...we love the poo so much, they sent us more. I am so sick of winter. I think we all are sick of it - except the ski areas. They have had a great year here. We now have the 4th snowiest winter on record, which they began keeping in the 1950s. Just sick of it - especially after it was over 50 degrees on Saturday and Sunday morning. At any rate, they have to do the renovations and they are scheduled for this month. I guess the falcons are going to come in second this year; however, if Fancy and Groucho do set up in the nest box, there might be some interesting commotion up there! A local newscaster is working with Michael and myself and we are trying to get at least 1 new camera up there that can be controlled manually. We would like to place one in the nestbox and then have one that is movable. Maybe this will be a good year IF we can get someone to support it.

That would be so nice I sure am hoping that it all works out for you & Michael on the camera, also just a question cuz I'm still learning.
If the falcons are there already nesting isn't it illegal to bother them?

I am not too sure about the legality, but I think that if the reparations have to be done, they HAVE to be done and I was told that it is a necessity to do the renovations. One of the things that they are going to have to do is take down a huge antenna that is in danger of falling. I believe this takes precedence over the PFs at this point. I do hope, however, that those guys have really good hard hats because whether they have begun nesting or not, Fancy will see them and take after them. Mike Allen from the DEC has said that Mariah in Rochester was fierce, but he thought that Fancy might just have her beat. Fancy has drawn blood more than once with the DEC people and it's usually Mike who gets it. I can attest to Fancy's fierceness because a couple years ago, we were trying to find one of the juvies and I went into the building and asked to be taken up to one of the high floors to check rooftops. When the maintenance guy took me up, he took me up to the 20th floor just below the nest box. I wasn't paying attention and walked up to the window and THERE SHE WAS, flying straight at me, and boy was she pissed! I left very quickly!

I am sitting here with 3 of my 9 cockatiels sitting on my shoulder. Between 2 females, I have 9 eggs. I am pretty sure at least some of them are going to hatch. When and if they do, I will take pics. For now, here are Papa and one of the Mamas.

This is Lucky - the papa

And this is Buddy - one of the mamas

I'm not too sure it's lucky...LOL. It just sort of happened that I have that many. I believe that I am going to have quite a few more very, very soon. I have 3 very large cages and 3 birds in each cage. I have 5 females and 4 males. I am trying to train them. Some of them will sit on my shoulder, some will step up onto hands, some "talk." I would love for them all to be friendly. I know I am going to have to rehome some of them, but geesh, it's so hard to figure out which ones I will adopt out. Each of them have their own personality and I love them all...
