I just received Mike's reply....so sad...human trash again :rage :gaah:

"As far as the video tape shows: At the time the cam shut down for Sunday night all three chicks were visible. The condition of the nest had a lot of plastic bag material at the center where the chicks huddled under the mother. Here in Oceanside, NY early Monday morning we had heavy rains up until 8:30am. We suspect during the heavy rain prior to sunrise the plastic bags acted as a rain catch and filled with water. Three chicks huddled under the mother as she tries to shelter them from the rain, if a chicks head was squeezed into the lowest point in the nest it is a possibility that one could have drowned. When the cam turned back on at sunrise Monday morning most of the plastic was missing... along with a chick.

This is the second chick mortality since the platform was raised in the winter of 2000. Also this is the first time this pair has used this platform.

Thank you for keeping a watch out there"

Marsh Mike, thanks for the heads up. I'm assuming the nestlings and adult weren't hurt... I hope you can get the cam fixed this season. I'll look for nest updates on the cam site. I was looking forward to banding in a couple of weeks.....
