I think someone is pouting...

Did they put gravel in front of the box or has that always been there or is it just the cam?

I can't wait to find out if we have a boy or a girl!!!

Oh, poor little chick all alone in that big cage. But at least it can't tumble over the edge and land on the street like one of the chicks did last year or the year before.

About the new gravel: I believe they add gravel to the floor of the cage.

I'm sorry, but does anyone remember a chick this age that large? That is HUGE!!! She sure is healthy and super cute!

Harriet hung out with her a lot today. Poor things, its tough to watch.

You're right, SGB!

As we expected based on the birds' sizes from the video camera, we have three females and one male, all VERY healthy. Dixon, who weighed in at 690g, is the only male. Strathcona (1014g) and Durand (1040g) are big but Gleig (1049g) is, we believe, the largest Sheraton Hamilton chick ever banded.

Pes- they do this to prevent early fledging. There have been several instances, including last year when they decided not to put the cage up (they did after they retrieved the little one, who did survive the fall). By the time they release them, they are excellent flyers.
