Good Morning

When I opened the cam, Durand is sitting on the nest box cam, preening her beautiful self.

After sitting on the nest box cam housing for a little bit, she headed into the nest box for about a minute or two. She then checked the area around the nest box, finding something she didn't like (maybe a stray pebble), then headed back up to the ledge. She did a little headbobbing, then walked down the ledge and is now standing in front of the ledge cam.

Out of box, back to ledge.

Well, now I think it might be Durand. I can't tell from this distance. They are calling to each other, so I'm hearing higher pitched and lower pitched voices.

Darn...I can't tell... If the second would should up on ledge, I"d be able to tell based on size.

Now I'm leaning back to Matrix. I think I'm seeing the vertical stripes.

Just flew after calling...

Now, I'm pretty sure Durand just arrived on ledge and is calling/chupping...

To the box...

I think she wants him to come over for some one on one time.

Out of box. Back to ledge. Looking out.

Head bobbing a little.

Looks like a full crop.

Missed Durand arrive again.. She came in quiet and went to box.

She's chupping and MATRIX JUST DID A FLY-BY!!!

She's really calling for him.

He's there now at the end of ledge.

Actually, I think I had them confused. Matrix in box. Durand at ledge came end. E-Chupping to each other.

Wow...Totally confused.

Durand is grayer. Matrix is darker.

Matrix to nest box. Durand on back ledge out of sight.

Some kaaking calls.

I hope this is Matrix & not another female.

Both to nest box.

Both in box briefly.

Matrix flew.

Durand back to ledge.

So, based on coloration, I think I had the two mixed up in my earlier posts. I think it was Matrix coming to ledge, in box & back out with full crop.

Durand is now on nest box cam housing.

What confuses me is the few alarm kaaks..

Sorry...

Unfortunately...I've got to be away from computer for a few.

Falcon flying in the distance.

Durand still on nest box cam, preening.

Falcon in the distance again. He's having a good time flying around out there.

Of course, she's not seeing him...funny.... He's trying to show her his ACE flying skills and she's oblivious. Hehehehe..... totally getting a Saturday Night Fever feeling... He's trying to strut his stuff...

I was on a weekend camp trip (Mt St Helens). Thanks for catching that video SGB. I caught one and am loading now.
They both went into the box together!!! The box cam is off, but still. He didn't stay in the box with her long...
Durand was making a low "YakYakYakYak" that I haven't heard her make before... Be right back.

Hi mwplay  Is the low "YakYak" the alarm call you wrote about?

Video of the 11:55 am interaction that mwplay described.
Durand fly by @ :32 & :49. The "Yak" @ 1:28 & 2:06

Hi Mick...

:eggwave:

Yes... Thank you for the video.

The speed in which she was vocalizing, reminds me of alarm calling, but again, didn't see aggression/defensive behavior.

Maybe it's an excitement vocalization?

You could be right. To me, this sounds very similar to the sounds that the juvies make when they are following mom/dad about town for a handout.

I do hope these two get the hang of things. But in the meantime, I am really enjoying watching them work it out.

Carly, I've read the same thing about chickadees; how many "dee-dee-dee's" is translated as "how big" and "how close".

I appreciate your sharing your observations.
