The Fledge date has been set for June 16th (with a weather back-up date of June 17th). We will install the remote door opener in the morning. This is a frozen water/weight arrrangment that releases the door latch without any humans nearby. This helps ensure that the young bird is not panicked into jumping before its ready. VDGIF staff and volunteers will be on hand to help ensure the bird has successful first flights.

Not the best pics, but the first time I've caught her out all day...look how droopy her little wings are...I think next year, they should put a bird bath in there..

I know its for her own good...but....gosh, if she only had one sibling to play with...oh well, I hope Harriet comes by to say good night...

Needless to say, I'll be a at fledge watch!

We are getting the heat the next two days. Its going to be brutally hot on that roof. Hopefully she stays in the shade.

I hope so too....the few times I checked on her today, she was in the box....so, Barb...ya think you can talk them into a bird bath for next year? we know falcons like to bathe...of course, it would either be disgusting or evaporated after one day...but would be fun...

Well, I think she's had a very active day...I wondered when she would start climbing the cage..

Based on her shadow in the frames after this pic, I think she must have gone to the top..

I'm not sure what happened here...maybe she fell off, maybe she jumped down...No clue...but after this pic, she figured she'd had enough and she went back to the front of the nest box...

Wow, great action shots sgb! I'm amazed she was so active in the heat. I haven't caught any feedings.

Nor have I...but I haven't had the cam open 24/7...and that's the first parent I"ve seen in a while too...good catch...

I always worry about dehydration in heat like this. I get that "lecture" every time I go to the bird store..."now make sure you provide plenty of fresh water for drinking and bathing..."...."yes, ma'am"

Me too sgb. Raptors get their fluids from their food, so you can only hope she's eating. I'm sure she is, and we're just not seeing it.
