Thanks for all your kind words about my photos! :)

These birds aren't from Wilmington but as far as I know there isn't a forum for Brigantine in New Jersey so I'm posting them here. :)

The bird that's divebombing me is actually the male who is the more aggressive bird at this site. The person who took me with her when she banded them said that the male snuck up from behind and actually hit her on the head the last time she was there! Luckily she had a hat on.

I love the feet on these guys!

This Red-winged Blackbird kept attacking the male while he was sitting here guarding his kids.

I just got this report from Tim:

"One kid on ledge next to nestbox, CJ on Brandywine Building, RG preening on top left corner of Hercules, one kid hunting and landed on top of a tree in the cemetery next to hospital garage!"

I guess I should probably say, "trying to hunt" since I don't think they're actually able to catch anything yet!

Thanks for the report from Tim, Kim. Your other pictures are fantastic too. Those feet are made for holding that prey, and keeping them on things in strong winds. Love the straight on face picture.

The full wing pictures are awesome, and that one of him facing directly at you made me gasp!

More great photos! :clapegg: What a gorgeous tiercel & you got some great close-ups of him, & also him & the rw blackbird. I think a baby peregrine's feet are so funny! Thanks again, Kim!

Thanks to Tim via Kim for the report on the Wilmington family. The pictures of the Brigantine falcons are truly awesome, including one gutsy Red-winged BB. I've seen that pair of falcons at Brigantine, but the general public isn't allowed anywhere near that nesting tower.

Thanks for putting up the pictures of the Brigantine falcons. I've been to the Forsythe Reserve a few times in the past year and always hope to see the falcons, but as Jane said, the tower they nest on is well back from public access so I only get a long-distance view. He is a real beauty.

It won't be long before hunting turns into catching for WB and RB. Time flies so fast!

Time flies way too fast when you don't want it to like for the falcons growing up! :(
It seems like only yesterday that they were little balls of fuzz...

Five falcon chicks leave downtown Wilmington nest
Wilmington, Del. —

The five chicks known as the "Wilmington Falcon Cam Peregrine Falcons" left their nest site atop the Brandywine Building in downtown Wilmington in mid-June.
Two male eyasses, as falcon chicks are known, are still in Wilmington, while their two sisters have been relocated to a site near the New River Gorge in West Virginia as part of a regional effort to restore peregrine falcons to their native habitat. The fifth chick, a male, was found dead of unknown causes near the ground floor of the Brandywine Building.
Since mid-March, when the resident adult pair produced an unusually large clutch of five eggs, local birdwatchers have been following the family’s progress on the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control falcon cam. Typical clutches are three to four eggs. A complete chronology of this year’s webcam action can be found at http://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/Admin/Pag ... n_Cam.aspx.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service raptor biologist Craig Koppie, assisted by falcon aficionado Kim Steiniger, put leg bands on four of the chicks so they can be monitored and identified in the future.
The two sisters were relocated to West Virginia following initially unsuccessful attempts at flight and a brief stay at the Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research Center near Newark.
Bologists hope that the cliffside site will be imprinted on the birds, and they will return to similar surroundings in the future, further restoring the regional population of peregrine falcons. “It’s a great honor that the Wilmington falcons can contribute to the recovery of the species in its natural range,” Fish & Wildlife biologist Anthony Gonzon said. “With luck, we will see our Wilmington girls again with their own nests in the wilds of West Virginia.”
"The same as the hundreds of online watchers, I too was captivated by the drama of the parents and their young, from egg laying to fledging,” said Bill Stewart of the Delmarva Ornithological Society, which co-sponsored the webcam with DuPont’s Clear Into the Future. Only time will tell if an encore performance is in the nest

FROM KIM THIS MORNING

5:50 SHE SAW 3 BUTTS ON THE TOP OF BW BLGD AND HEARD AT LEAST 1 BOY SCREAMING.

5:55 DROVE UP TO THE GARAGE AND SAW WHAT SHE THOUGHT WAS A PARENT GOING AFTER SOMETHING BEHIND THE SHERATON.

6:01 CJ ON THE BW BLDG. A BLACKBIRD OR SOMETHING FLEW BY AND CJ WAS STILL PREENING, HE'S PREENING ALOT.

6:07 GRACKLE FLEW BY AND HE'S STILL PREENING. ONE MINUTE LATER, HE FINALLY GOT OFF HIS DUFF AND WENT AFTER SOMETHING :-) DOESN'T LOOK LIKE HE GOT ANYTHING.

6:10 STILL DON'T HEAR THE BOYS, HEARD THEM BEFORE DRIVING UP TO THE GARAGE, BUT NOT SINCE SHE GOT ON THE GARAGE.

6:23 BOYS CAME BACK AND SHE THINKS THEY LANDED ON THE ROOF OF THE BW BLDG.

6:35 ONE OF THE BOYS JUST FLEW AND IT LOOKED LIKE HE WAS DIVING AFTER A BIRD BEHIND THE BLDG WHERE KIM WORKS. SHE SAW HIM DO A LITTLE STOOP BEHIND THE BLDG AND THEN ON THE OTHER SIDE SHE SAW HIM CHANGE DIRECTION REALLY FAST AND GO DOWN A LITTLE LIKE HE WAS CHASING SOMETHING.

TIME FOR WORK, SHE HAD TO LEAVE :-(

AS SOON AS SHE GOT IN THE CAR, THE OTHER KID FLEW AND HE FLEW TO HER BLDG!!

Thanks for posting Reenie but you must not have received a lot of my messages!

Before I drove up to roof, I heard 2 kids screaming, then 1 kid flying, then 1 kid chasing adult, then both kids and adult flying with both kids screaming! And of course they were chasing each other right over me instead of a mile away since I didn't have my camera out since it was so cloudy!

CJ was just in the nestbox! He started to bend down like he was going to work on a scrape but didn't.

Thanks for the early morning reports Kim and Reenie. And thanks to Kittenface for posting the article. Noticed that Kim's last name was misspelled. :-(
