 Here are a couple pics of the herons. She has 3 babies that I can see for sure. There is another nest in the area I believe because the sounds and hoarks and grunts are too numerous LOL.

One must be extremely cautious when handling these birds in a wildlife hospital. That means wearing protective eyewear.

Do we have any information about this nest? Such as date eggs laid & hatch dates? I didn't see this on the webcam. Also, does anyone have the link to the Facebook page?

Thank you very much for posting this link!!

Hi Beans  Critterzoom is the vendor for the WA state F&W folks. The link I posted for the cam viewing through them, is one way to see the herons and other cams. If you go to top of page and go to the "about" page it explains that they offer online classes for kids, LIVE, and explains their mission. If you go to links, it can link you to the WA direct site, which also has the cam view. I checked the heron page there for info re this clutch, and all they note is that they are on eggs. I dont recall ever seeing more info posted, but will keep checking for dates somewhere! Here is that link:

p.s.
This link is for cam videos only: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPcIZ97VsCE
Here is a link for the WA Dept of F&W's you tube channel page and shows some habitats.

Video: Baby Herons Tussle & Peck

May 19, 2011: This Great Blue Heron nest has three chicks. The older two frequently beak each other, while the youngest looks on. Adult herons defend themselves with their long, sharp beaks, aiming for the eyes of a predator.

Recorded around noon local time

There is a new Goshawk cam

Three rare goshawk chicks have hatched at Cwmcarn Forest.
Image
A pair of goshawks have made their home at Cwmcarn Forest and set about laying eggs at the site – three of which have now hatched, with another yet to.

The RSPB recently set up a ‘nest-cam’ for birdwatchers and visitors to Cwmcarn Forest to see the birds without disturbing them.

Known as ‘the phantoms of the forest’, only 500 breeding pairs of goshawks exist in the UK.

The nest-cam project is a partnership between the RSPB, Forestry Commission Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Laura Reynolds, RSPB Cymru Senior People Engagement Officer said: “Visitors at Cwmcarn Forest had such a fantastic time as they watched the very first Date with Nature goshawk chick enter the world. We are now looking forward to meeting more people and showing off these magnificent chicks to the people of Wales.”

Here are some updated pics of the Heron nests at WA's DF&W site. The camera was zooming today showing at least 5 different nests. You will note in one of the original nests I have shown pics of before, where it is sloping at an angle, there is now only 1 heron baby left. Some eagles prey on them, and they also have been known to fight and sometimes one goes over the edge. Dont know what happened here. Hope you can see them well enough.

Image
Here you can see where the foliage has grown in. I believe she has 2 smaller babies in this nest, look for
the black eye stripe to find one of them.

Image
This is a nest of 3, all healthy looking and sized, but only 2 visible in this pic.

Image
This is the sloping nest, only 1 large baby left preening itself.

Video: Nap Time for Baby Great Blue Heron

With their body and feathers growing so fast, young birds need plenty to eat and lots of naps. Mom knows it's time, and gently nudges her baby under her soft, warm feathers.

Great pics, Beth! Love the puffins. The third pic is an immature gull; I think maybe an immature Herring Gull.

This photo is from another forum; there is no information with it, and no link. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?
