Not a fan of transmitters on peregrine falcons. :sunno: I understand why they were used in the past, but to me it is just entertainment for the humans now. I don't mind if someone wants to disagree with me, though.

I don't disagree with you. I think it's useless information that is collected and doesn't have anything to do with the recovery of the falcons, only where they go. :???:

Here are Rain and Rosser with the transmitters attached. Rosser is on the wall, he has yellow tape around his silver band. Rain has no tape on his.

:omg They've already got them on? geeeeeeeeeeeez...well, I guess on the plus side, hopefully they'll go ahead and activate them so that they can be tracked at the time of fledging....They didn't do that for the NY bird (Hope)...I don't think it was ever activated and I think Hope disappeared right after fledging...I need to go check on that...

Yes, they have them now. We were shown the nest box for 1/2 hr then the skylight so we couldn't see the people, but you could see the shadows of the parents flying over on the roof floor.

Well, I've voiced my opinion...and its done...now I just hope it doesn't hinder them in any way...especially if they are "new and improved"....we'll see...Carolyn, do you know when they will be turned on?

That was quite the discussion on Manitoba...I haven't been back since this morning....I'll try and check it out later today to see what they're saying now...

No, I have no clue when they will be turned on, but I will ask TPC. She may not know either, but I'll ask anyway.

Thanks Carolyn!!!

This was earlier today...before getting fitted with their new accessories...You can't really see anything unless you watch his shadow...

Transmitters were reused early on so they could gather information , on where they migrated to and how fst they traveled, etc.
they do not interfere with their nesting but they do appear to interfere with their timing as far as when to head back after the winter. .

Quest, is not a problem , because Quest does not migrate.

But it appears to show a pattern of them retuning quite a bit later than ones without transmitters and thus they loose chance.at getting a site.

This happened with MIss Edmonton and Genesse male. they had the latest in transmitters. Miss Edmonotn had hers changed a few years ago and now they removed it, to give her a fair chance at keeping her new site.
Same wit Genesse male.

It did not interfere with their speed , it was when they started north.

so I do not like them. Never did , and never will.

Hmmm...no word at all on Beatrice after her first fledge not even this morning. I saw some of the fledge watchers online too and no one has said anything despite people worrying ...I sure hope she's okay.

The reports on the Winnipeg site say that both Beatrix and Cade have been spotted, and are safe. There is also an indication that Carson will be returning very soon to this site from his stint in Rehab. We are awaiting further reports from the field.

The latest report on the Winnipeg, Manitoba Forum from the biologist is that it was decided not to release Carson here today, as it is extremely windy. If there is less wind tomorrow, they will do so then. No word on Beatrix or Cade.

I very glad that I am able to see the Brandon birds in person, because the cam has been positioned in the same spot since noon yesterday. :sigh
