good morning everyone,

I was down at the site bright and early , before 6am, in the pouring rain. Man, will it ever stop. all today and tomorrow yet.

I walked around a bit, and found everyone . 3 kids and 2 adults.

When I got there, 1 was on top of Windsor apartments.(yellow) and one lying down on Maz and one standing up. Adults were not there immediately and then I saw mom on her aerial and dad came around , just to stir the pot   Yellow came flying off of Windsor aprtments to chase dad and the other 2 followed suit. Crazy kids. I think they wanted food, but today will not probably be as bountiful. That is probably why there were so many buffets yesterday. I told them to settle down and they listened :sunno: :sunno:

Marlene came down in the rain and we sat in the car for a bit and then enjoyed a nice coffee inside. The kids were now on Clinical science and Maz.

I am a bit under the weather, so after Marlene left , I took one last look around. At that moment I saw dad on Newton apartments, further north. Yellow went tearing down there and knocked dad off and stayed there. Dad came around to check the other 2 and then went behind College plaza,. Mom was now tucked in where she goes for the night.

I felt , it was safe to leave as I am sure there will not be too much action in this rain and it was not windy, so...

Yesterday the kids showed off their stuff. We really feel that YB is the babysitter. He defeathers for the others and appears to watch over them when adults are out.

I am constantly in awe ,in regards to the brilliance of these falcons. To see them in action and to see the adults teaching the young ones ,the ropes, is just a sight to behold. As Peter said , I look through my fingers a lot as they go through the buildings. They are so clsoe together and there is so so much glass, and Peter just sits back and enjoys the ride. Good thing one of us does

They all have such individual personalities. BB male hangs back and chills. But when he flies, what a treat. Yellow is just a sight to behold and a little stinker, but what a leader already. I think right from the start. The night the intruder attacked mom and then him(Monday, while we were rescuing RB) he just stood up and flared his wings and cacked, just like an adult. Jean caught a few picutres with her small camera which I will process right away.
RB is such an accomplished flier after her slow start. Peter said she would end up the strongest.

Yup, my emotions are all over the place. :cryinggirl: :cryinggirl: I grew attached to GG after watching her all day Tuesday and I so wanted her to succeed. But I know she is up there flying free and I am glad she had a lot of flights and felt the wind beneath her wings. AS , my daughter said, she looked a proud a punch , when she landed on the roof of the apartments on Whyte avenue, even if she should not have been there.

Peter and Bob and Carol will be down there this evening after work.

I am going to try and do a few chores and get some ZZZZ's :eggwave: :eggwave: :eggwave:

I have not been able to access BCAW for the past few days (it suddenly became a banned site), so had many pages of posts to read.

I am so very sorry to hear of the tragic loss of beautiful little green girl. It is so unfair that this gorgeous little one did not have the chance to have the life that should have been hers. Each of these juvies is so important; I was hoping that this year all four would be able to survive the very dangerous time of learning to fly. Green Girl will not be forgotten.

I am very grateful to all the fledge watchers who have been spending long hours to try to keep these fledglings safe. Thank you for all the great reports and photos. Many thanks to Jean for all her wonderful photos, which provide a great new perspective on the juvies.

:clapegg: Good evening folks. Carol and I arrived at the CSB around 5:pm in light rain. I decided to splurge and drove the car up to the roof in the event that the steady rain we experienced all day continued (It was bad enough to cause race organizers to cancel today's practice session for the Edmonton Indy which is scheduled for Sunday.) Peter had arrived. He and Barb were sitting in his truck watching, keeping warm and staying dry. There was a falcon on the antenna on Campus Tower. Then we spotted another on Newton Place. And one flew behind the Windsor apts. Barb took her leave ... she was feeling a bit under the weather as well. (I don't think we hit the forecast high for the day. The car thermometer read 12C (53.6F) on the way home.) We had two - sometimes three falcons in sight for most of the early evening. After I walked back from a local restaurant with Carol's and my supper, the falcons started appearing one by one to get their supper on top of the Maz. By the time 7:pm rolled up, we had all five in sight. Dad on Campus Tower, Mom and the three chicks on the CSB. They were all fairly quiet for the next two hours. Short flights here and there, but mostly sitting on the CSB. Dad took off hunting somewhere and the others stuck close to home base. As we left just before 9: Mom and two chicks were on the CSB. The third chick was surveying the scene from the Maz. Peter must have left just behind us because we met up at Safeway in St-Albert on the way home.
To sum up the evening: cool and quiet with an absolute absence of drama. :thumbegg:

SGB, I was wearing a t-shirt, a double-knit long-sleeved shirt, a long sleeved sweater, and a jacket. I had to put my hood on to stay warm. Then again, we have December, January, February and March. :tearhair The Falcons head south. I don't complain about heat in the summer. (But I do understand how oppressive your weather is right now. :suncrazy: )

Thanks, kittenface. This team really is a great team. I'm learning a lot.

It is always a good day when there's no drama. Thanks for the reports, everyone. I, too, would love a cool, rainy day about now. Alberta and Manitoba are hogging all the rain. (Seriously, I'm sorry about all the flooding.)

To add my two cents about weather, I would take cold and rain over heat, anytime. About 22 degrees Centigrade (I think this is about 70 Fahrenheit), without rain, would be perfect here in Edmonton. You can always dress warmer if needed, so I am not complaining about the rain here (even though walking around in it for an hour without an umbrella is not my favourite activity!)

I am sorry you are having such terrible heat in the USA right now - it is hard to take, for falcons and people alike.

Looks like the weather in Edmonton will be nice today for both falcon and race watchers alike. :spring1:

You are all a great team!! So sorry the weather has not cooperated though. I'm surprised to hear how much they are flying in the rain. I thought they really didn't do that. How nice to hear about YB's great talent and leadership. I'm sure it helps keep everyone safer. Thanks for all the reports. Hope everyone is resting and enjoying the flying time!

Saturday july23 Am

Peter and Dave and Becky and I were at the site, Saturday morning.

The kids have moved down to Ed building for first time. They are also feeding and flying around Med Science. I still close my eyes a bit when they come close to the buildings, :sunno: :sunno: but they put on some displays for us.

We like seeing them down there , as we feel it is safer for them, as far as flying goes. And we get more exercise.

Mom was keeping an eye on who we thought was RG and BB ,and we assumed that dad took YB out .

PM
Peter and I went back in the evening. WE only had one kid in view and one adult. I believe it was RG on Ed building, playing around on antennaes and flapping her wings, and dad looking over her. .

So I went walking in the rain. I spotted from the campus tower corner an adult on back of another building ,behind ED building and one kid on side. ( we call this an Ed extension. ) As I was walking around back of Ed building, 2 flew over head and there was some squawking. Not sure if both were squawking or not. (Too many trees in my way) . but I love the big trees.
Lots of magpies and ravens and squirrels and rabbits. could do without the ravens.

By now Peter had made his way down with the dogs. We went up on parkade by Ed building and saw no one . but as Peter was walking , he saw one fly over to Med science building.

So we started back. Now we have one on Med science building and dad on Corner of Ed building and that is all. I try never to leave till I see all 3 kids. (for a few weeks anyway)

So up to top of parkade across from Maz building. Mom is halfway down on her aerial, dad has moved to corner of chi-ching building and one kid is eating on corner of Med science building(where Becky works).

Then mom flies off by clinical science and across behind parkade, next to us, and then down by Newton place. We look over to Clinical science building and we have one tucked in, under nest box(we are assuming BB as that is his favorite place). then in comes another and flies up to top ledge on north side of college plaza and one is till eating on Med science . so we have all 5 in view. time to go home.

Saturday july23/2011 WEBER

After we went to university in the morning, Peter and DAve and Becky and I headed down to Weber builidng. We had to drop some posters off etc.

It was very windy down there but we had Miss Edmonotn and dad in view. We eventually saw all 3 chicks , one out in front and 2 in box. they look like they still have lots of white on them. I do not think they are near ready to even fledge by next weekend, but maybe if sun stays out , they will be able to flap and get ready.
