I sure wish there was something to post here. :( I really miss our evenings together watching the Falcons and posting our silly smileys, etc.

I miss those evenings as well, Patti! Maybe next season, we'll be able to watch Orange live, since the powers-that-be at Alcoa don't appear to be interested in having the falcons nest at their facility.

Alcoa Anglesea Peregrine Falcon Webcam

Tuesday August 8, 2011
Welcome back! The 2011 Peregrine falcon breeding season at Alcoa Anglesea is just around the corner.

Havoc and Ava have been present around the station for a couple of weeks but unfortunately there is no evidence of the pair visiting the new nest box from 2010. Regular patrols of the Power Station have commenced in case Ava finds it more appealing, however there is no evidence of a 'nest' on the structure at this stage.

Alcoa Anglesea has been home to a pair of Peregrine Falcons since 1991. In 2003, a new pair adopted the Power Station as a nest site. After two failed nesting attempts on the Station itself, environmental staff installed a nest box for the pair on the site's water tower in 2004. From 2006, a live webcam broadcast images from the nest box across the world. Unfortunately, due to continuing aggression from the pair towards employees, the nest box was relocated in 2010 from the water tower to a stand-alone location away from our main buildings.

The most serious threats facing Peregrines in Victoria are illegal persecution and the continuing loss and disturbance of suitable nest sites. Only 3% of Peregrine nests found in Victoria are on man made structures, so Alcoa Anglesea is pleased to be able to provide a safe and secure site for this pair of Peregrine Falcons.

Alcoa has an ongoing interest and involvement with Peregrine Falcons in Victoria, with both the Anglesea and Point Henry sites working alongside the Victorian Peregrine Project (VPP) to assist
with research and conservation of the species. This work is part of the environmental management work underway at each Alcoa site to reduce our environmental footprint and promote conservation

Well just checked my mail and low and behold i got an answer finally

dear Jannice,

thank you for your email.

apologies that it has not been answered earlier.

the nest box is up but we will wait to see if Ava and Havoc move in before the camera is installed at the new location.
the website at www.alcoa.com/falcons has been updated today for the beginning of the 2011 season.
manual updates will be posted on the website weekly from here on in if any news comes to hand. not as spectacular as the camera, but will have to do for now.

thank you again for your interest.

Thanks Kitten for the update & thanks to everyone who emailed Alcoa to try to get info on their intentions this year. One thing I noticed (& you all probably did as well) is that they used to say it was Sheila who was so aggressive & that she was the reason they moved the nestbox. Unfortunately, Sheila isn't around to blame anymore, so they are referring to "aggression of the pair" as the reason the nestbox had to be moved. I don't have a lot of hope that this year at Alcoa will be any different from last year, but we can always hope!
