Cool pictures! That perch tree is about half a mile from where we were standing.

I KINDA THOUGHT IT WAS A KID TOO AND I THOUGHT THEY LEFT, BUT THEY DIDN'T. GOT THIS SHORT VIDEO IF IT EVER GETS DONE UPLOADING TO YOUTUBE :-(

Now I'm not so sure. It looks like an adult's legs. I thought it was a kid because the head in your picture looked it had brown on it but maybe that's just because of the lighting and because the bird was wet. Hmmmm...

Lots to catch up on while I was out of touch. Thanks for Jane's and Reenie's report & pictures from the Wrightsville area. The pizza mention made me hungry too, btw. I'm glad you got out there to see some of the family from that nest! Also, I'm glad Reenie caught someone in the nest box here and got a video for us. I enjoyed seeing that since I almost never find anyone in the nest myself these days.

No one there now,but they sure have been, with how neat the scrape looks. Wow, have we had the rain. 6 inches so far. It was raining hard again this morning. Our back yard birds don't mind. Found the Catbirds eating our cherry tomatoes. That's OK, there is enough to share.

So nice this nest is protected from the weather, given all the rain we have had. Those feathers in there would be a mess if soaking wet. No one this morning at this time.

RG has been in the box for a while. First she was talking to her sweetie...

Then he joined her briefly...

Now she's hanging out working on the scrape...

I just saw some feet on the ledge so CJ must still be out there.

CJ is gone now, but Red Girl is still there. Looks like she's having a snooze. What a treat this morning! And now she's gone, too. When I tuned in around 8:00, could barely see CJ's tail at the entrance to the box.

He was just back briefly and then she left. I think he asked her if she wanted to come out and play. :)

I agree. They are sweet with their actions. More demonstrative than I used to know and think about the ways of birds. Watching the Falcon's so closely has taught me a lot about bird relationships. Now I can see it with the backyard variety!

I had a customer telling me about a picture at Mt.Cuba Center. It was a Praying Mantis with a Hummer in it's clutches. Can't imagine how that could happen. Oh, the ways of Nature.
