Thanks Reenie! It was fun having Rex hang out with us for a few days. He loves falcons as much as we do! I'm grateful to have him writing all the great stories on wildlife. Its nice that he draws so much attention to the natural side of our town

And what WAS the reason for the pen? I do believe it was the birds were not able to hold onto the ledge railing. It is too slippery. Ginger seems to have a grip on things. :suncrazy:

As a younger chick she might have fallen off. Now if she slips she may just be able to fly. She appears to still have quite a bit of fluff.

I think they do a great job here of doing what is best for these young guys.

Our biologist worries about our ledge at Weber and he is keeping close eye on it, as we only had one chick last year, but this year if all hatch ,there will be 5.

Nice picutres , by the way.

I'm sorry to report that Ginger has died. Sergio, one of our dedicated DGIF biologists got downtown at around 10:15. She was on a window ledge right below her perch ledge (1 story). He went back to his office to get a scope and got back about 11:15. The light in the office was turned on and it spooked her. She had a good first flight, but he didn't know where she was. I got there about 12:00 and posted on the Dominion building. Ozzie was on the McGuire Woods sign. I saw Harriet fly out from a building behind the McGuire Woods building and then I saw Ginger perched on top of it. Harriet also went to perch on the McGuire Woods sign. Sergio positioned himself below the building Ginger was on. She flew headed right across the street, and Harriet was immediately in the air. Unfortunately she hit a window of that building and dropped straight down. Sergio found her flat out on a parking deck. The head trauma killed her. Its a very sad day in Richmond. Thanks to everyone for all your time watching out for her on the cam. As we know, this happens all too often in urban environments, but seeing it first hand really sucks!

I just can't believe this...I know it happens and windows are so deceiving for these babies...but, I am just in shock...so much heartache at this nest...poor Ozzie and Harriet...their poor baby gone so soon..I just don't know what to say...Its horrible when it happens anywhere, but why did it have to happen here!!! This is just horrible... :cryinggirl: :cryinggirl: I really think I am going to be sick..Gosh...we have "nursed" this baby since she came out of her egg...

Everyone did all they could to make sure she would have a safe flight...and that's the real pisser (pardon my French)

As all o f you , I am in shock. I am so tearful at this moment that I cannot see the keys.
I can truthfully tell you that I am dreading my fledge watch.

I am just sick.

the only positive thing I can think of is that she hat least had the chance to feel the wind under her wings. Fly little one. fly free
