I was outside when the quake hit, and didn't feel a thing. Sue was in downtown Harrisburg and could feel the building she was in shake.

I just saw both adult falcons on different ledges of the Brandywine Building.

Not many prey remains lately, so they must be doing most of their hunting and eating somewhere else. If CJ catches the last Eskimo Curlew as a present for Red Girl we may never know.

Wow, that is something Kim. Greg, I hope CJ holds off on that Eskimo Curlew, as I need it for my life list! :-)

Me too, Jane. CJ has caught a few shorebirds (including Pectoral Sandpiper and Black-bellied Plover), but hasn't yet equalled his father Caesar's capture of Upland Sandpiper and Wilson's Phalarope.

Hey you "birders"!!! What the heck! Names I've NEVER heard before!! LOL!!!! Always room to learn more. Keep it coming!! I'm just the back "yarder", but very eager to learn. Learned about the Falcon's here!

Kim that must have been SO scary! I was in the car driving and never felt a thing. When I got to Lowe's, I wondered what all the talk was about , but never asked until I got home and my Son called. He felt it badly as the Shop sits on granite. We even hear the Ship's engines on the River sometimes.

Wow, Greg! Such a variety! Went to the Zoo with family yesterday, and talked with a girl from Tri-State, who was holding a beautiful African Falcon. I took her picture. She knows Kim and Greybird. We had a nice conversation and the Falcon was just as calm as could be. She said all the Falcon's fledged successfully from WV. except one, that will be used for education. I didn't go into much conversation about that subject. A very nice visit with her.

The Tiger is beautiful! I took a lot of pictures. Had to get my mind off the caging thing. If you know what I mean. A nice day and such a nice setting.

Now to wait for Irene! Oh! Hope with everything that the Falcon's find refuge. That nest box would be good!! I think the wind and rain will come from the other direction. But it can swirl around too. They are saying worse storm in 50 years, if it hits us. We have had so much rain already today and tonight.

Someone is in the nestbox now! I'm guessing RG since she's hanging out. CJ is usually in and out of there pretty quickly! Hopefully the two of them will take refuge in the box during the storm!

There's an office building nearby, 1105 N . Market St., that has long caves at the top of northeast and southwest faces. If the falcons want shelter they can find it even if they don't get in the nest box. If at some point it's windy but not raining, they may want to get up in the sky and play.

It's my understanding that falcons like wind, so they may be having a blast over the weekend. From what I just heard on the weather at noon, Irene has weakened slightly and may also not make quite a direct hit on South Jersey. Maybe a Bridled Tern will blow in for CJ to capture. :-)

Oh, I just learned something else from you two( Jane & Greg ) about the Falcon's.
Didn't know about the wind thing. Interesting!

Another Zoo item. They have a Condor there. Wow is He big!!! A man asked me if it was an Eagle. That I could answer intelligently. Couldn't help think how much that Condor would have loved to be riding the thermals. Got to get my mind off of that. Makes me sad! Have to remember they are teaching.

Safety to All!!! Neighbors and ourselves are putting things away that are outside.

You may be right Jane. On the morning of September 6, 1979 Tropical Storm David was blowing over. I watched a big dark immature peregrine chase pigeons, kite on wind deflected off what is now the Doubletree Hotel, and then climb furiously to chase some largish terns headed for the Delaware River. I thought that they might be Sandwich Terns, but a dying Sooty Tern was picked up in Wilmington that morning. I've seen Bridled Terns from deep sea fishing boats, but haven't put Sooty on my list yet.

Maybe the falcon I saw was an ancestress of Red Girl, CJ or both.

Tim just sent me a txt saying he saw 2 falcons on the Nemours Bldg and 1 on B Bldg so it sounds like at least 1 of the kids is still around? :)

Thanks Kim for that info that indicates one kid still around. Glad he'll be around his parents to help him ride out the storm safely.

Stay safe everybody!

Oh wow Kim, that is great news. Hope it's not an intruder, though. :-( And Greg, I'm one up on you with the Sooty Terns, but you're one up on me with the Bridled version. And to everyone in the Wilmington area, stay safe over the weekend.
