Thank you Susan. Very interesting and very similar to the array of prey taken in Wilmington. Here's a list from an article I did for 2003-2007 that Kim put in the FAQs on her blog:

http://www.wilmfalcons.com/food.htm

I'm still keeping track and will do another five year list for 2008-2012. CJ has contributed species as diverse as Cooper's hawk, chimney swift and Kentucky warbler.

Interesting lists Susan and Greg. I noticed only one Crow on the Wilmington menu. I wonder if falcons don't eat Crows for whatever reason. I think it was two years ago when our Little Dad in Harrisburg killed a hapless Crow that made the dumb mistake of landing on the nest ledge while our beloved Mom was incubating. To my knowledge, the Crow was not eaten.

To Greg (and anyone else interested in falcon prey), take a look at this list of prey found in the nest box in downtown Indy: http://www.peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/vie ... 73#p151673

THAT IS TOO COOL! I OFTEN SAID I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO GO TO THE ROOF AND LEDGES ON OUR BLDG! I DO FIND SOME INTERESTING FEATHERS AND GREG IS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP ME EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A FEATHER BOOK, HE'S JUST SO GOOD AT IT AND I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I GET HOME :-) THE MOST SURPRISING I FOUND WAS A COMMON NIGHTHAWK. ALSO SAW A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER THIS YEAR IN THE BOX TOO. WISH WE HAD AN EXPERT LIKE GREG TO REPORT EVERYDAY IN HARRISBURG OF COURSE SOMETIMES THE FEATHERS DON'T LAND ANYWHERE NEAR THE BOX.

SEE THERE, I SO WISH WE HAD A GREG IN HARRISBURG! THE LISTS ARE SO INTERESTING! WHAT A GREAT LIST GREG! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR NEXT LIST IN 2012 :-)

ONE YEAR MOM BROUGHT A COOPERS OR SHARPIE IN THE NESTBOX TO FEED THE KIDS, I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT!

I enjoyed looking at your list, Greg, and I so admire people who can easily identify birds by their parts. I can barely identify a bird that is whole.

Wow! such interesting lists, Susan and Greg! Thanks for sharing. Being a feather person, but not an expert, by any means of the word, I find those pictures and lists so interesting. Gives me idea's as to how to catalog what I find. Maybe not description on all but at least, better than just in a box. I have it all figured out now. Loose leafed, 3 ring notebook, with the plastic covered, black paper or white insert. Feather's attached and numered with a log! THANK YOU ALL!

Edit: A good winter project!

Susan and Greg - Great lists of the various birds on the falcons' menus. I'm envious of anyone who can ID a bird only by feathers or a beak, as I have a difficult enough time trying to identify a whole bird right in front of me.

Faith - Sounds like you have a great winter project ahead of you to organize and ID all your feathers. Good luck with that!

Yes Ethel! I am looking forward to getting that together. But first a trip to Ireland at the end of this week! I'll be looking for "Irish Feather's"!

Faith - Hope you have a great time in Ireland and come back with some Irish bird feathers to add to your collection!

I hope so Ethel. My eyes will be to the skies too, and have my camera with me to maybe get bird pictures as well as everything else!

Heading to Cape May in the morning. Planning a stop in Wilmington on the way down. Hope Red Girl and CJ put in an appearance.

SOMEWHERE AROUND 10AM, JANE CALLED AND SAID SOMEONE WAS THERE SITTING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENTRANCE TO THE BOX. SHE WAS 90% SURE IT WAS RG, BUT SHE MENTIONED THE TAIL BAND AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS CJ, I CAN'T ALWAYS REMEMBER THOUGH, LOL!

I'm so glad that Jane was able to see Red Girl this morning!

P.S. I'm always forgetting also which falcon has the white tail band, but Greg reminded me the other day that it's Red Girl with the white band.

CATBIRD, THAT IS WONDERFUL THAT IT IS RG WITH THE BAND! JANE WILL BE SO HAPPY THAT IT WAS RG :-) NOT THAT CJ IS ANY LESS IMPORTANT. I'M HOPING SHE GOT TO SEE THEM BOTH BEFORE LEAVING :-)

Jane may see more peregrines in Wilmington today than in Cape May.

True Greg, but I think she was hoping to see many Hawks and Butterflies too. Too bad the weather isn't better. Glad she saw RG. I bet it made her day!

JANE CALLED AGAIN. BEFORE LEAVING, THE OTHER FALCON FLEW PASSED THEM AND WENT UP SOMEWHERE BY KIM'S BLDG. SHE THOUGHT THAT WAS RG, SO WHO KNOWS WHICH WAS WHICH, BUT AT LEAST SHE DID GET TO SEE BOTH OF THEM :-) SHE ALSO WANTED TO LET GREG KNOW THAT SHE FOUND A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO WING ON THE SIDEWALK BETWEEN THE BW BLDG AND THE GARAGE.

No one here today at this time. Of course could be out on the ledge like Jane saw. The weather is bad with fog and rain expected. My last post for a while, after Ireland trip. Take care all!
