No trace of Hampina in a long time. It is well that she was not "allowed" to remain in the territory anymore, but had to go out and test their own wings.
On location in bolådan we see now and then Linnea and Råger however.

Nest box on St. Cecilia Cathedral, Albi, France..( I think we may have mentioned this nest early in the season....not sure.) they do have a cam pointed at the nest (obviously) but not broadcast.

Outside of Nest Box...note, no perch or ledge

SGB, I also opened a topic France on DEF's site.
All in dutch of course, but with a lot of info, pics and films about Albi and other locations in France.
All the links for the camera's or blogs can be found under headtopic Europe.

Thanks for the video of the nest in France, SGB! That nestbox is an accident waiting to happen. Very close quarters for 4 chicks & no where to perch outside. The chick was very lucky...

Some sad news at Helsingborg :tissue:

August 7 - Axa found!

For a look at the webcam today, I noted that Linnea was visiting. But otherwise, today's big news that Axa found, unfortunately, dead. See information below.
AXA's operations. The large ring that almost completely lost the purple color
known as DX, and the little purple ring 90A62307 (photo: Christer Strid)
- Christer Strid - Bo02 -
Our second female - Axa - which were nesting in 2009 and 2010, but then disappeared in the year 2010/11, have now been recovered. More about re-discovery there are pictures here also of her bands and a not so great pic of remains if I would have known that picture was there I sure wouldn't have opened the page

But on a brighter note if I'm reading this right they have found a chick from the past with a nest I THINK
So have we received our first international control where the bird originated from the nest in Helsingborg. He was born here, along with two siblings 2009th Previously, we had the Danish Control on a kid coming from Kullaberg Falcons and where the individual also came from the same litter as Råger (our male in Helsingborg).

Oh no....we were all wondering what had happened to her... :cryinggirl: just so sad...it makes you wonder what happened...I just can't see her in a battle with Linnea, who is so young, but ya never know...

KF, the second link wouldn't open for me..

For those of you not familiar with the Panama Canal "Bird"....this is a Bat Falcon!!

Here is some info from SgB posted in 2008!!

Here's a little info on the Bat Falcon

Habitat

Bat falcons inhabit the tropical rain forests. Though they occur in unbroken forests, bat falcons seem to be able to adjust to human disturbance and are sometimes found to be more common in broken forest, which includes disturbed area, forest edge, road cuts, riverbanks, or cleared agricultural land with scattered trees.

Physical Description

Bat falcon adult males measure 24-29 cm (8-10 in.) in length with a wingspan of 56-58 cm (18-19 in.) females also range from 24-29 cm (8-10 in.) in length but have a larger wingspan, which ranges between 65 and 67 cm (21-22 in.) in length. The head and upper parts of their body are black, with grayish edging to contour the feathers from their upper back to tail coverts. Their throat and upper chest is white and tan extending to their neck. They have a long black tail with many fine white or gray stripes, and buff tip. The bat falcon has deep brown irises that may help camouflage while hunting at night. They also have small hooked beaks that allow the bat falcon to easily tear its meat. (Britannica 1999-00; Del Hoyo et al. 1994).

Behavior

Bat falcons are considered a solitary raptor. An important part of bat falcon's time is spent hunting. This type of behavior is a sign of their predator nature. Bat falcons primarily communicate through visual and vocal ways, often calling back and forth to their mate during breeding season. Courtship for the bat falcon begins in February or March, which is the middle of the dry season in Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico. In Trinidad, nesting begins in February, and in Colombia, breeding begins in February or March. In Venezuela, the bat falcon lays its eggs in March and in Guyana, in April. In Brazil, it will lay its eggs in August, the middle of dry season. Both parent will take an active role in protecting the nest, which may include chasing off other raptors. The male provides nearly all of the food during the nestling period. (Del Hoyo, Elliott, Sargatal 1994; Weidensaul 1996

that is sooooo great to see again! I wonder if it is the same Webby from 3 years ago - it would at least be a relative or sibling - I was so worried by the last few pics that we had, that he had been devoured by a much bigger raptor (was it a RTH??? can't remember now) - that I could hardly watch any more. Dear little Bat Falcons - YAY!!! :hapdance:

Thank you so much for the pics of Webby, Beth! It's wonderful to see him again! I had checked from time to time, but had no luck. What a great catch! The last I remember, a peregrine was wintering at the site and sitting on Webby's perch.

Thanks Beth. I check this cam pretty often and have seen the camera aimed at the red platform, but no falcon in sight. I wondered if he had been there . :hapdance:
