Thank-you KF.

I was watching as I was doing my banking. Hopefully I paid the right things :teehee:

I am confident this is Radisson. I jsut wanted to see her in the box. She has been reluctant to bond with this male but I think they have bonded now.
things are just different with a different male. He does seem a bit leery.

So we hope our dad will stay south till migration. Gord will let me know when he releases him and then i have to watch. I do not want to witness a fight. Our male will not be ready to fight yet.

And I certainly am not looking forward to next year now. Maybe I will take a holiday.

You said poo . I said a few more choice words when I first saw the male a week ago. I sent him daggers and called him all sorts of m names but he would not listen. :tantrum2: :tantrum2: I know this all part of nature, but I do not have to like it. We have too much drama at this site. My little old heart can only take so much :suchdrama:

Yea I said a few words to but I couldn't post them I'd get thrown out :teehee:
I know its hard on you but you know in your heart you'll be right there next year,
its in your blood  And your right about nature maybe your male will find someone right off as he gets released that would be nice or at least fly south and get all his strenth good before returning I don't want to see any fighting wither maybe this is just a fly threw for this new guy

I am behind here, but just now caught up. It was shocking to read how bad Dad really was. Thank goodness for Gord that he could get Dad put back together and strong again.

Elaine, kudos to you for rescuing the Grebe in the middle of the night. Glad you got a nice pay-off of releasing it.

Carly I was wondering about that also it is so convenient showing up so soon after

I wonder if the fact that this new male has shown up here so conveniently as dad was found injured...well what if he was the one who battled dad in the first place for the site? Perhaps dad was trying to chase him out explaining why he was found near the other territory? We've seen alot of younger falcons try for sites right after fledging the past few years instead of during breeding season as we were taught to believe, when the parents would be tired giving a youngster a bit of an edge.

Thanks for all the updates, sure hope everyone stays safe here.

I originally thought that maybe dad battled this falcon, but dad was found only a few blocks from Bell site so we really think he just caught being in wrong territory. Maybe with one of the kids . we will never know. the good thing is he was found almost immediately as he was at our site at noon the day he was found.

This male did not show up until over a week later. Dad went missing later on the Monday august15th and peter and I were there as much as we could and we never saw any other sign of a new male until Thursday of the next week,(august 25th) so he could have been there Tuesday of the next week as we could not go down on the Wed. But we saw all the kids until Tuesday(August23rd)

The week before this happened ,Becky saw the unattached female at Bridge(which is half way between our site and Bell) sitting with a male. I think Radisson went scouting and this male took the bait. but we will never know.

I am waiting to hear from Gord. And I hope dad does not hi-tail it back here. I only have limited time now but Jean is watching , when she can from her window.

Long season here.

I have a slideshow. of the different male. I think he is young by the coloring at top of chest .

I will not call him new male as we will see next season. our male is still alive and well and am waiting word. So my heart will not allow me to think of this as anything but a stop over by this young male.

but none the less I will post photos.

I have put all my other photos on hold for now, as my heart is not quite in it.

Oh Bev, just catching up here after vacation. So sorry to hear about dad and the new male. I guess we'll just have to cross our fingers when he is released that he doesn't find his way back. Thank you for continuing to go and check on everyone. You must be pretty worn out by now. Fortunately, they will start migrating soon!

Carol and I just got back from a week-long camping trip in the mountains where we were oblivious to the goings-on at and around the Clinical Sciences Building. Thanks for the reports, Bev and keep us updated but do take it easy on yourself. Becky, Jean and Elaine, kudos to you as well.

I am posting the letter I sent to my group

Good afternoon,

Well what a year we have had. Our adult male got injured a block away from Bell site on Monday evening, august 15th. At first Gord was told he had a bonk on his head, but when Gord picked him up, it was much worse. It was obvious he had been in quite a fight. He had septicemia, no broken wings, but lots of talon wounds and feathers off neck and one side of head. He was very sore, and Gord figured bruised. Gord kept him and nursed him back to health.

The plan was to release him in the marshlands of southern Alberta last week but Dad is not ready. He is not strong enough yet. So it looks like the will be wintered here and if strong enough he will be released in spring. I sure hope he can be released in spring because I hate to lose such a good male. And if this one comes back he is young and we have so many problems because of the Maz.

If DAD is not strong enough, they will keep him as and educator bird and a breeder.

The reason they were going to release him in southern Alberta is because about August 25th a young male moved into our territory gradually. With the pictures I sent Gord, he agreed he is a yearling. The male proceeded to chase off our young ones. We monitored closely and we have not seen a kid since about August 29th. That does not men they are not sneaking back in. Gord is sure they are just fine and probably independent. I hope so. But to release our male back at Uni would not have been good. He would not have been ready for a fight.

So Gord is to send me pictures of our male, which I will send to you.

All appears well at Weber. As of Friday night we saw 3 falcons s, 2 for sure were kids and we believe the other was as well.

Cheers
Bev

Of course I am devastated.
But I guess the Poitier thing is, he will still be around,.It has been a tough one this year at Uni. I know there is so much worse going on the world, but when you follow these guys so closely , they jsut become a part of you.

I am going to have to try and get some distance and not do as much.

HUgs to all who are going through trying times

Bev, I am very sorry to hear that Dad was so badly injured. I am glad he has been receiving such good care, and I think it is a good thing that he will not be released until spring. It would have been hard for him to have to migrate almost immediately after being released, and this way he will be safe through the winter and much stronger by spring. I hope he will make a complete recovery.

I never seem to see anyone at the nest, except today:

Thanks, Alison, for the pictures . . . and bev for the report. I have so much faith in Gord and I know you do to, so we know that Dad is getting the best care with best decisions being made. I can understand your sadness with how things have gone, but they could have been worse. At least Dad is alive and thriving. :spring1:

You are right about dad being in best hands and I know things could have been worse.sometimes my heart gets in the way of my head. Peter thinks a way too much :girlyes: :girlyes: :girlyes: Gord always has the falcons best interest at heart. If they are releasable , then that is what he does. If a young one can be fostered , that is what he does. that is why he is held in such high regard.

He is going to test him out again this week. but we know he will go no where this year and I am relieved about that becasue I was worried if he would be strong enough for migration.

Well I am off for two weeks of R and R on Vancouver Island. this is a trek we do every year around this time.

We will stay at a place called eagle cove for 4 days and even though the weather is to be miserable we will walk with the pooches and just enjoy the nice ocean air. And if we are lucky we will get to see the migratory birds, of all kinds. then off to visit my dad and brother who live up island. We usually stop in Okanagan on way home.

but last night I went to say adieu to all my birds , in case they are gone when I get back.

Clinical

Radisson was on north west corner of Suite hotel and the young male was on south facing ledge of Windsor apartments , one ledge up from where dad turned in. You can just see his lack of confidence. but he is young. I was hoping a young kid would come screaming through on way to migration. but no such luck.
I wished them a good migration. :thumbup
My heart tells me next year is going to be a completely different ball game. And for this , I am not ready. But we are seeing it all over.

WEber

It was a little later when we got here and at first no one and then 2 kids did come quietly in and then they landed on west letters of Weber . They have been all on east letters till now but they are growing up and the wind was coming from the east and it rained last night , so they were smart. they had a bit of chatter and then tucked in. I did not see anyone else so I hope Miss Edmonotn waits till I get home to migrate. The females here usually go first week in October. I said my goodbyes.

so my friends, my picutres are still waiting and when I get back I will take a whole day and sit and do a recap of season. Everyone might want to see a few peregrines by then.
Radisson has been spending a lot of time between nest box and Suite hotel

A few cam shots. the last 4 of this morning.
