You are so right, catwoman, and thank you for reminding us/everyone. That 4th one was just as precious as the others.

Thank you for your gentle reminder about the 4th chick. It really has been a tough year in South Bend.

I agree, & as much as we're going to miss him, I don't think he would have been happy living in captivity after spending his life free. :egg15: Thanks, Susan!

A piece of good news from South Bend: Guinevere is hunting and also giving flying lessons to her chick. It is beautiful to see them floating on air and catching updrafts !

Thanks for the fantastic news sbwatcher. And welcome to BCAW! We look forward to hearing more first hand reports of Guinevere and the little [not so much now] one.

I was almost afraid to open this for fear of more bad news.... Thank you again!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes, the happy emoticons, and the beautiful blue fairy! I will enjoy looking at them in the future also.
I can see that this board is a friendly place. :eggthumbs:

As you may have guessed from my screen name, I live in South Bend, and I try to make it downtown for a bit of falcon watching at least three times a week. I will be happy to share sightings with all of you here, especially since all the falcon action is probably now off the web cam. Unfortunately, I have no camera that could capture decent pictures of faraway birds and these falcons are usually located much higher than me and so far have shown no interest in posing for pics. :teehee:

(This next paragraph is in past tense, but please don't worry, the falcons are fine, I am only reporting last week because I haven't been downtown for a little while. )
As of last week, the juvenile was frequenting the northeast corner of the County-City building, perching there for long periods, and looking around. Sometimes she would stretch out her wings and tilt them slightly in different ways. It seemed to me that she was testing the different air currents and feeling how they would react against her wings. Once she took flight all on her own, riding air currents, she made a large circle around a building and then, eventually back to perch on top of the nest. After a few minutes there, she was treated to a late lunch by Mom, who was still feeding her by beak. The two of them look alike now, so I have to guess who is who.

I'll try to check on the guys today and report back.

Excellent report, sbwatcher! I'm so glad you found us here so that we can enjoy hearing about what happens outside the nest box. I'll look forward to your next report. :thumbup

:bonnet: And welcome to our forum, sbwatcher .. its really great to have you here and and to read your report. I am so happy to hear that the juvie has been spotted!! Such a sad nesting season with the loss of the 2 siblings and, of course, zephyr. What a great dad and provider. I certainly will miss checking the cam in hopes of seeing him. .

Now, if we can just convince the "powers that be" to change the position of the box.. . move it back a tad. . .

Please let us know if you have any questions or run into any problems.

Saw the girl early this morning, perched on the County City building corner. :egg7:

Last night around 7:00 I ran into some fellow falcon watchers. They told me that the juvie still sleeps every night in the nest box. She comes in about 9:30 P.M. (eastern time) and lies down about 10:00 p.m., and Guinevere sleeps on the roof. I thought, hmmm, that's one awfully well-behaved teenage falcon. A regular bed-time and everything ! So I went down that night, still plenty light out, and there was the girl on the roof. After a few minutes a bird flew by, I wondered if it was G, and then the girl swooped down to meet her, so I guess it was. One last flight before bedtime for the girl. :offtobed:

Thanks for keeping us posted on our South Bend girls sbwatcher. As far as bedtime goes, it sounds like the juvie is better behaved than my kids when they were teenagers.
