Thank you all for the warm welcomes, the happy emoticons, and the beautiful blue fairy! I will enjoy looking at them in the future also.
I can see that this board is a friendly place.
As you may have guessed from my screen name, I live in South Bend, and I try to make it downtown for a bit of falcon watching at least three times a week. I will be happy to share sightings with all of you here, especially since all the falcon action is probably now off the web cam. Unfortunately, I have no camera that could capture decent pictures of faraway birds and these falcons are usually located much higher than me and so far have shown no interest in posing for pics.
(This next paragraph is in past tense, but please don't worry, the falcons are fine, I am only reporting last week because I haven't been downtown for a little while. )
As of last week, the juvenile was frequenting the northeast corner of the County-City building, perching there for long periods, and looking around. Sometimes she would stretch out her wings and tilt them slightly in different ways. It seemed to me that she was testing the different air currents and feeling how they would react against her wings. Once she took flight all on her own, riding air currents, she made a large circle around a building and then, eventually back to perch on top of the nest. After a few minutes there, she was treated to a late lunch by Mom, who was still feeding her by beak. The two of them look alike now, so I have to guess who is who.
I'll try to check on the guys today and report back.
