that is why I like the Optimator. It doesn't have to be iced cold for me like the lighter beers. :toast

Yesterday: I gets up and out the door by 5:35 a.m., thinkin' that I'ze gonna see a FALCON today !! And I gets there at aroun 5:45 and there is no falcons !! :gaah:
And that night, no falcons either. I might have left right before they came because i had to go to work.
And I thought, what's up with me, am I becoming a FALCON STALKER???

And then, this morning, I saw.... a FALCON on the corner of the building. :ohyes:
She sat for just a couple minutes, then flew off for the day.

Oh, and guys, it is really sweet of you to worry about me being downtown, but there are not that many people in this part of nighttime downtown South Bend, (besides security guards and cops), and mornings pretty much no one is down there at all before 6 a.m., only some traffic passing through, and some pigeons and ........ FALCONS !! :woohoo:

And guys, thanks also for the beers and goodies :eat
And, not that I have any spare time, but what are some nests that are good to watch on-line right now? (Raptor and non-raptor suggestions welcome.)

sbwatcher, I enjoyed your post . . . as usual. You obviously have a great sense of humor.

I'm sure others will have suggestions for cams to watch, but one I can recommend is the falcon nest at Elk River, MN -- Great River Energy Plant.

kittenface is right about the Rochester cam being a good one.
sbwatcher, I came up with a couple more nests that may interest you. (You will be sorry you asked. :teehee: )

Estonia Ospreys - I haven't watched this one, but heard it was a good cam. They are 7 hrs ahead of us.
Cam link:
Info about nest:
BCAW topic link:

Genesee (Alberta) falcons - This is a 5 sec refresh cam with no audio, but the view and color are really good. They are 2 hrs behind us.

There are lots of other great cams, but so many are empty right now.

Going home at 2:10 a.m. , I stopped downtown and saw a bird perched on the corner of the County-City Building, her back to me, apparently sleeping. I figure it's either Abigail, possibly Guinevere, or one of the idiots of pigeondom. (There was no one on the SB cam when I checked last night at 1:30. )

*** HUMOROUS story follows. No Lives were Endangered ! ****

Oh, and there was some guy pointing a gun at me too, with three other dudes, but they didn't say anything to me, so I just went home, figuring that maybe I would investigate in the morning.
So I went back this morning, and the guy and the other dudes are still there, all with weapons, not moving, and I figure they belong together because they are all about 7 1/2 feet tall, and all of them are GREEN. They are 107 years old. How do I know this ? Because it says so on a plaque by where they are standing. Apparently these guys are part of a Civil War Monument from 1905. They just stand there with weapons. So I guess our peregrines are possibly the most dangerous thing downtown during non-peak hours.

Whoa, whoa, you all are gonna fire up a propeller plane :girlhot: and come out here? I must give you fair warning that this town is so small that
an airplane landing is gonna scare and agitate some folks and they might call the local police or National Guard Reserve or maybe just sic some local falcons and Cooper's hawks on you. Then again, you all might enjoy the falcons and Cooper's hawks.

Why we barely have one traffic light, and we can't afford our own burglars we have to import them from Gary and Chicago. IF you don't believe me, go check out wikipedia about South Bend and our population of 186. :teehee:

The SB Watcher's Cat says: Don't believe her. She is only serious about me and those falcons she is so devoted to.

I have been to South Bend many times since hubby graduated from Notre Dame. Small town, but has grown and gotten more sophisticated over the years. Although most of our visits to your fair city have focused around football, we occasionally wander [like a peregrine] into the downtown area.

As far as the airport, I know there is one and this is how I will get there:

A rushed reply before I go off-line for a day or two. Gigi, you are correct, we do have an airport. It's also a bus and train station all in one.
I'm laughing at your little flying person. South Bend is actually quite a bit bigger than I said it was, but our downtown is tiny compared to that of Indianapolis.

Beth, thanks for the taco, I'm sure it's better than anything the downtown Taco Bell dishes out. And I can use the big spicy pepper to disable any bad guys. And yes, we do have bad guys here, but they are generally not in the downtown area at night because all the action is over on the West side, the Southeast and ......... Elkhart, Indiana. (Well, parts of Elkhart.) Places I don't go at night.
Carly, thnx for the article link. See you guys in a day or two. Enjoy all those cams !!
