This was posted on Kinney's Facebook page 18 minutes ago. I am in shock - I cannot even believe it.

It's with the saddest of hearts, a huge lump in my throat and copious amount of tears that I tell you all that Kinney has died. His body has been recovered from the 29th floor of Market Tower. Details aren't known of the how but it looks like a collision. I will post more later.

My mind is just spinning. . I cannot imagine what in the world happened. . Was he on his way to the box? When did it happen? Kathy is in the box now. . gosh. . does she know? I am so heartsick about this. . First Zephyr and now Kinney. . we have lost 2 great and wise peregrine falcon ambassadors. . I just can't imagine this nest without him. .

My heart just breaks, watching Kathy. .

Oh, I am so heartbroken to hear this. Indy was certainly blessed to have him for so long. Really don't know what to say, except I am SO sorry.

I don't even know what to say. I've only been watching them for a few years but fell in love with them. Poor Laura - I so enjoy her blog and she loved him so much as was evident by her commentary, she must just be devastated. And KathyQ - I can't imagine.

And Alison, I know how you felt about him - as always it was through you that I learned about these legendary falcons. I'm so very sorry. :tissue:

I don't know what to say either, Carly; can't say too much right now. I have watched and admired Kinney for so long. He was simply the best father anywhere, and the very best mate to Scout and then to KathyQ. He leaves behind the most incredible legend, having raised a record 61 chicks. Today I was watching the Indy webcams with a back view of one peregrine on the ledge; I thought it was Kinney from the very white bib while preening, and the wingtips longer than the tail, and then I saw the post on Facebook.

KathyQ will already know what has happened. With the incredible eyesight of peregrines, who can spot prey at a distance of at least 2.5 miles, I am sure she knows.

We know this may happen one day but nothing really prepares us. I watched them last year as they lovingly raised their lone chick after such sorrow at the site. I was in aw of him as I am also with Zeus at Woodman.

Kathy will mourn as will all of you. I hope , whoever comes this way is worthy of this site.

Thank you for that update, Carly. And Bev, I agree with you about Zeus at Woodmen; he is another of the great ones, and he is now 18 years old.

It is just so hard to lose the very greatest tiercels; Kinney, Zephyr, and Bandit in Akron. All had long and remarkable lives and left their imprint upon the world and upon the future.
