KathyQ hatched May 17, 1998 which would make her 14. She is no spring chick herself, but I hope she has a few more good years. Laura thinks that the slowing down in egg production these last 2 years was more to do with KathyQ's age than Kinney's.
We'll hopefully find out if this is the case next spring with a new, younger male. :girlluv:

KathyQ, born at the Froedtert Mall nest in Milwaukee, is the daughter of another iconic pair, Leopold and Raynie. Leopold was born in 1992 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Raynie was born in 1995 at the Irving Park nest in Chicago. 1998 was Leopold's first year with Raynie. Raynie raised 37 chicks over her lifetime, a remarkable record. Sadly, Leopold and Raynie are both gone now.

KathyQ is a beautiful falcon and a great mother; I hope she will find a new mate for next year.

Another photo of Kinney's bands, taken today at the Peregrine Patrol Annual Picnic.
Richard was so kind to let us see them up close and hold them.
We also looked at pictures taken over the years of this great tiercel and his families.
The plans are to exhibit them at Eagle Creek Ornithology Center in a local park.

:sum10: We may have a new bird in the area.  I heard from the lady who found Kinney's body that a banded peregrine was sighted on the ledge today outside the Hilliard Lyons office.  She said too small for KQ  but definitely banded(apparently about the size of Kinney).  Just a heads up to keep a good eye on the cams - perhaps it is just a bird passing through but you never know.  KQ hasn't been on the cams much lately so perhaps she is out and about with a new guy.

Thank you for the news, Gigi! I wonder who the new bird is. I haven't seen anyone on the cams today, and have only seen KathyQ once or twice in the last week. Wishing only good things for KathyQ.
