sbwatcher, thanks for your detailed report and being vigilant for sightings. I sure hope Guinevere has found a nice young man. Your sightings and reports are so valuable (not to mention entertaining to read).

I JUST NOW saw two falcons on the building ! :ohyes: (Typing fast because I am at the library and they are closing really soon !) One on the NE corner and one on the NW corner. The western one was darker and I think I saw a white chest, meaning adult. He (?) looks rather regal. The eastern falcon preened a lot with several wing stretches, and when it stretched its wings, the light hit the undersides just so, making the bird appear GOLDEN !!

I watched them for about 15 minutes, then they both flew off to the north. If I have time, I will add more details to this post before Saturday .

Bet the color on the falcon was beautiful. I liked going downtown during our fledge watch at dusk. The lighting was always so special.

A friend of mine took this picture last week, she wasn't sure what it was. This was on her neighbor's deck. I can't make it bigger to be sure if it's a falcon or not, but thought you guys would enjoy it regardless! :sum9:

Yes, your friend has a falcon and I bet that falcon ate whatever was using that swing set ! :popc:

Seriously, this photo is a wonderful chance for me to see one of the Indiana falcons up closer than I usually see them. Pardon me while I stare.

Reporting from South Bend, a solo falcon was seen yesterday morning between 9:30 and 10 a.m., on top of the nest box, toward the back of it, preening and ignoring pigeons. If I had to ascribe a motive to her, I'd say she was "Öwning the Nest Box"
(S)he looked pretty relaxed, Maybe (s)he got the other falcon to hunt for her, so maybe she is owning a boyfriend too.

Been gone for a while, but I came back to town and saw a solo falcon tonight on the City County Building around 7:15, just sitting quietly and occasionally looking around a bit. This may be the same one that I've been seeing before on the Northwest corner of the building. I think so because it has a dark back and is sitting in the same spot. I'll let you know if I see anything more.

A lady came by and asked if there was an eagle. I explained about the falcon and loaned her my binoculars. She told me that for the first time in a century, bald eagles are nesting in our county ! They are in Potato Creek State Park, just a few miles south of us.

(sbwatcher says :ciao to the eagles ! )

Does anyone know if the banner of Kinney, Zephyr, and Freedom is archived anywhere? Thanks !

Thanks for the banner SkyGirlBlue ! :thanku

I spotted the brown falcon Friday night on the CC Building. It seems that the brown falcon favors the northeast corner, and the dark falcon favors the northwest corner. I usually see one of them between 6 and 7:30 p.m. It's late in the season for Zoe to be still around, so I'm assuming that these are two adults. I'm actually a bit surprised that I haven't seen any other raptor watchers here since July or August. I'll try to get out a bit more often this week and see what I can see.

That would be great! If she and KQ settle on mates, then all or our Indiana ladies will be set for 2013. :girlluv:

***PEREGRINE FALCON ** on the County-City Building NW corner right now !! I have no more watch time today, but wanted to let everyone know. The bird appears to be an adult and was eating something. There is a hot dog vendor on Main Street close to the CC Building, so I thought that maybe the raptor bought itself a snack before the big Notre Dame DRINKING games tonight. Does anyone know, do these falcons eat meat?

Yes, they eat birds which is meat. :teehee: I think [and I am no expert by any means] that a hot dog wouldn't be their first choice - and maybe not second or third! Are you certain this is not Guinevere sbwatcher?

Oh my, corn dogs bring a whole different argument to this! A few years ago during fledge watch in Indy, Mrs. Mallard chose a planter to lay 8 or 9 eggs. It was very comfy, close to the water in pool at the base of the monument, and right next to the hot dog vendor! What more could she have asked for! As they say it's location location location!!!
