:sum9: Am soooo happy to see this finally happen...have been looking in for some time now, lurking, hoping that a real courtship would begin...and now it has!!

It was so hard after DaddyO died, and Mrs O left for probably another male's nesting cavity. We have watched Ms Spots as she is called, take over the cavity, and noticed her "gentleman caller" on the sidelines, notably a young barn owl, trying to vie for her attentions...they got closer and closer on the "office branch" and now boom - he has "moved in".

There is a lovely sequence of shots on the post today from emma showing his arrival and re-acceptance back into the cavity after their first night yesterday, together. Check back one more day and there is a video link posted of them in the cavity together.

The band shows he was probably banded in the area, 4-2011! Read Pete's comments regarding the band info at the top of the homepage. Very exciting!

Life does go on, we will never forget our beloved DaddyO, but this is the beginning of a new saga at Starr Ranch! Happier times surely are ahead!

:sum9: :girlluv:

The 'Owl Cam' excitement is back as couple takes up roost
BELL CANYON – A new pair of barn owls – a husband and a misses - are drawing thousands of eyes back to the world-famous owl cam at Starr Ranch, the Audubon Society's 4,000-acre nature preserve.

Ten days ago, bloggers lit up the Starr Ranch web site after a group of viewers caught sight of a tawny, spotted female barn owl going in and out of a cavity recessed inside a 50-foot-high eucalyptus tree at the sanctuary.

What??? I thought Pete was now officially in residence there.

Seriously, this is great news and I hope he is not needed next year.

Back in January Pete started delivering meals to the Starr Ranch nest after the Dad went missing. Here is one video posted by beans of one of many deliveries that sustained these owlets until they fledged. You can hear Pete as he goes up the ladder.

Here is a link to this topic starting on about page 9 when Dad went missing KF.
