Looks like CJ's V formation! Red Girl is there now. I've not been lucky enough to catch a nest exchange yet.

Finally got a look at the five eggs via the cam a few moments ago. Looks like Red Girl who just came in, and she finally got them all covered up after deciding which position she liked best.

Jane - Thanks for reminding me of CJ's preference for arranging the eggs in a V-formation. I'd totally forgotten about it!

Nice pictures. I have never seen them uncovered since the last one was laid. At least here the snow won't be such a factor as they are under cover.

Well, the snow is coming down really heavy. Finally laying on the streets here. Red Girl & CJ under cover though, but if it blows the wrong way it could be a different story!

CJ & Red Girl are some of the few lucky ones in the North. Most of the nests we can see on cams do have snow in them--hopefully it will melt quickly. There is a nest in Derby, England that the falcons can't even get into because the snow is piled so high! :girlsad3: Sure hope she (Derby) isn't quite ready to lay or she'll probably have to find a new nest! :girlcrazy:

I've added captures from the Derby topic that were taken by SuzanneH & DEF.

They are trying to get rid of the snow by lowering a hot-water bottle into the nest:

I laughed out loud when I first saw this :teehee:

I've seen that first picture before Nancy, but not the second one. Scrape in Indianapolis is full of snow this morning also, but no eggs yet. I believe I caught Red Girl leaving the scrape a few moments ago, and CJ came in. Most definitely saw five eggs.

Good for you Jane. I haven't been that lucky. Nancy that is a hoot with the water bottle. Also a dilemma. All kinds of problems in nature.

Glad you caught the picture of the eggs, SGB. The lighting was good enough to see them all, so we know we still have 5! :flirty:

When I logged on this morning she/he was moving around on the eggs. Maybe turning them. I'm not going to guess which one it is! Hard to tell. I try to use Greg's hint about the wings being shorter on CJ.

Actually CJ's wings are proportionately longer than Red Girl's. I think that the best mark is the amount of white on the face. See Catbird's introductory material (viewtopic.php?f=337&t=1035)

"How to Identify the Falcons

A red band on the right leg is a positive ID for Red Girl. If the right leg isn't visible, use the following tips.

From the front, check for . . .

- White cheek patch: Red Girl has a much bigger, whiter cheek patch behind the malar bar extending down from the eye. CJ's cheek patch is smaller and has a little lighter color there, but way less contrast.

- Color of bill and feet: It's a deeper yellow on CJ and a paler yellow on Red Girl.

From the back, check for . . .

- Length of the wing tips and tail: Red Girl's wing tips usually look shorter than her tail feathers, while CJ's wing tips usually look about even with his tail.

- Tip of tail: Red Girl has a thin white line at the very tip of her tail while CJ does not."

RG [jr] banded last year at this site was captured on Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ's Osprey cam in coastal NJ!!! For those that are on Facebook, here is the link (I think this is a public post, so those that aren't on FB might still be able to see it). For the FB'ers, I also shared this on BCAW's FB page.

That is fantastic news!!! Thanks Mike!!!

Helpful hint with FB links. If you will remove the "S" from the http, then non FB members can usually see the page (I took the "S" out of the link)...Sometimes that works...sometimes it doesn't..
