Happy New Year - a little late!
Please begin your 2013 posts here for the IPL Power Plant in Petersburg IN

CAM LINK

female – b/g, purple band
male - unidentified

John Castrale's report from 2012:
"A plant worker checked a nest box (installed in fall 2004) on 3/24 and flushed an adult off three eggs. On 4/2, three eggs were unattended with an adult male perched on a nearby smokestack. Still 3 eggs on 4/9 with both adults observed away from box. Three cold eggs collected from nest on 4/24; no adults observed. Distant camera revealed multiple daily visits by the adults to the nest box through mid-May. Jim Verley monitored and provided access to this site."

Petersburg IN is in southwestern Indiana on the White River. Located north and between Evansville, IN and Louisville, KY. Here are 2 pictures of the area.

I'm starting to wonder if this is an active site...I'm hoping that now that I've said that, falcons will appear...

The gravel doesn't even look disturbed...somebody needs to hang out a welcome sign...

Just checked and I show no eggs. I will look again later to see if the light looks different.

EDIT @ 1 PM took another picture and it was identical. Will check with John Castrale and advise.

I have not heard anything about eggs here. Also no mention of any on the Midwest Peregrine Society's FB page.

I sent the email and will let you know what I hear from either Amy or John. If I know them, they are probably out climbing up trees to check on eagles... But I did not receive an out of office reply, so maybe I will hear soon.

I keep an eye on this nest since my return to the forum and I've never seen any activities inside... :impat:

I received this reply from Amy of the DNR:

"You may remember that the female was disturbed at this nest box last year as she was incubating eggs. A plant worker checked the box and startled her out of it. It appeared that the nest was abandoned afterward. I guess she is a sensitive girl.

Anyway, I would bet that the image you see is correct, and that the birds there aren't using the box. Unfortunately."

I have noted the nesting calendar and hope she returns next year to this beautiful box.
