doesn't look like the Maine falcon can will be running this spring. Here is the news from Patrick:
Hi folks, we have been looking into options for this system. Due to required maintenance on site we have had to remove the outward viewing perspective which is what hosted our microphone. We also had our onsite computer die earlier in the year. So, we have a functioning camera and are trying to determine how to provide this stream to the internet in the most efficient way to avoid maintenance and streaming costs...which through ustream are about $500/month for 4,000 viewer hours-a viewer hour is one person watching the camera for one hour so this number adds up quickly. With ten people watching the camera 24/7 we would start incurring additional charges of $.25 per viewer hour after about 17 days. We have not been successful in the past at fundraising to cover the costs that we incur to operate this or our other webcams-which includes additional time for system maintenance, communications, website work. Beyond this our goal is to use these webcams as educational tools to share information about these birds and their behaviors. We are looking for possible solutions but I am not feeling too hopeful about this year. Thanks for all your support and understanding. I hope we can devise a plan to move this system forward.
Sorry I do not know much about this cam's owner, but perhaps local companies that can partner with the costs could help with funding for the following year....via advertising in the nestbox/or website.
Educational tool = grant's to apply for...if operator/owner is a non profit organization...
However, these are obviously not short term soulutions
