OH NO...I haven't checked this cam today until reading the above...I wonder what has happened? Could it have been injured when that very large prey came in yesterday? Oh this is so sad...they all have been doing so well..

If it's the baby, even though she always fed it well, I always had an uneasy feeling about it, something not quite right. I hope they check on it, as the others might be in danger too.

Aaw shoot!! Well if it had been "off" it could have had a problem like was suggested... Doesn't make it any better though, It must have been a hardy one to make it this long...

Well, I posted a comment on their blog...which I don't think they read...I sure wish they would retrieve it before Hera takes it out..I think it would be important to know what happened just in case any of the others are in danger..

I just came to post about only seeing 4, now I see why this is so sad.
Hera is such a good momma she did all she could, but sometimes things happen that we can't explain. Like you said SGB hopefully they can figure it out.

They have been getting fed well. I really think it must be something else...maybe trich? Hopefully not, but if if it is they really need to check it out. Thanks for sending them a note sgb. How sad as good as these two have been with 5 chicks. :cryinggirl:

Well, I did catch a feed...it had already started...the baby hung back until there was room...There was a comment posted on the FB page from earlier today that the baby was still alive but very lethargic.

For whatever reason, the comment I posted on the blog was removed or didn't stick or whatever. I posted another message on the FB page...and I will probably email Joel Jorgensen this evening..

FYI, I have emailed Joel, who is the biologist over this nest. He's usually very responsive, but I know this is a busy time of the year...

I guess we need to keep our eyes on the rest of these babies to make sure they are ok

I hate to say it, but this reminds me of Edmonton last yer. they were doing well and then they were not eating well, could not get it down. And we know the results of that. Gord got them treated just in time.

Please, know I am not trying to b negative , just cautious.
Watch their poop shots. if going in box , this is a sign also of trouble

I heard back from Joel who was not overly concerned..

"These things happen"...

Well, I'm gonna keep checking in here...and if any of the kids even comes close to looking lethargic, I'll email him back...

The feed I watched earlier showed all 4 bouncing around the box...I'll try to remember to post pics later..

Well that doesn't sound very encouraging. :girlsad3:

I cannot imagine what reason there would be for not trying to rescue a chick if there is easy enough access and no danger of the others leaping to their deaths.

So what happened to the chick, did they take it out or did the parents remove it? Or is it still in the box somewhere and I just can't see it. The chick acted like the ones with trich do, mouth open, never getting enough, because they can't swallow. Which would mean the others could be sick too, although once or twice I remember only the smaller, weaker chick dying and the others surviving. I never thought anybody else looked bad, and I'm not even sure that one is the one that died, but I think so. There is another small one that hangs back alot during feeding, but eventually it gets full too.

Well, I don't know what to tell ya, ljames...not that I stayed glued to this cam, but none of the chicks looked sick to me on Sunday and whatever day I posted all those pics (would have to go look) everybody was energetic and healthy looking..

I guess we just need to watch and if we see anybody that looks sick, we need to contact somebody immediately..

I would have emailed Joel sooner if I had known a chick was down, but still alive...but, I didn't...So..if ANYBODY suspects something, please email joel or contact somebody at Woodmen...Woodmen's email is on their website..and I'll come back and post Joel's email in a few or you can get it off the Lincoln, Nebraska website, I think..
