:loveshow: Thanks for the pictures of Yankee and Dixie!! I wonder if he was showing off for Dixie when he was wind surfing? And then when he saw her coming in, he took off? :teehee:

LOL..who knows...I do think he was still around when she came to the box...at least it looked like she was talking to somebody for the first couple of minutes she was there...then she settled down and began to preen...so, I bet Yankee was just off cam..

:sum9: We have one beautiful peregrine perched on the stick. Sitting still, but their head is going back and forth, sometimes swiveling around to watch something flying past. Seems very watchful - maybe thinking about lunch?

:girlluv: Yankee and Dixie were just in the box together doing some chupping and bowing. Yankee was doing some sideways head movements too - seemed like something I hadn't seen before. They stood perfectly still with their heads down for quite a while before Yankee bailed out of the box.

I see her too - she is beautiful. She looks like she has the world at her disposal or as the song says "by a string."

Just a quick question for you- How many pairs of nesting peregrines does Buffalo have? You have 2 here, one at the university and one at Central Plaza, and on the Racine thread, someone said there are peregrines on the Statler building. Is that a third site or just a different name for one of the first two? If it is a separate site, have they ever ID'd those peregrines?

There is a nesting pair on top of the Statler City Building. They had a cam in the lobby for the guests to look at when the chicks hatched. I sometimes walk over there to see if I can spot them but so far I haven't seen them - only on the local news!

Sally in Buffalo

PS So yes this would be the third site.

PSS One more thing "Statler City" has a facebook page and in their photos they prominently display the peregrines with their chicks.

:thanku Thanks, Sally for that information. I found the facebook page for the Statler building - it reminds me of the building where our (Canton Oh. ) peregrines have their nestbox. An old building that was renovated into an event center.... I found a picture of the current peregrine residents - so beautiful! I noticed in 2010 they were referred to as "Stash and Stella" on the Peregrine Place page. Does anyone know if that who is currently nesting there?

Stash and Stella were the Central Terminal pair. Stella was found dead on the roof of CT in early 2012 from what looked like a territorial battle and Stash was apparently driven out of the territory. The current residents are Gleig-sister to Durand in Columbus and Pigott in Rochester and Diamanté is her mate-hatched in 2008 in Rochester, offspring of Mariah and Kaver, brother to Quest in Toronto.

Other nesting sites in Buffalo area:

North Grand Island Bridge

Holcim - Recent female has green on band; was there for a week, male for one day, then gone; now returned

Old Cargill grain elevators

Niagara Falls in old power plant-Diamond and Onyx resident pair

I thought Stash and Stella were from the Central Terminal! I love having this information. Do we know the names of the resident pair at Statler City?

Thanks, Kris - so the peregrines at the Statler Blg have never been ID'd, right? About the Holcim site - as I have read on the CPF site, according to Tracy Simpson, I think the Holcim female hatched from Canton Oh. (her name is Caspian), and also the female from the Niagara site (Diamond) hatched from Canton. I so enjoy it when ours, or anyone's fledges are identified as they are spotted by bird watchers... Thank you for your reply - and patience with my dumb questions... :thankyou
PS OK small goof here - Caspian is at the Holcim plant in Canada.... sorry

This is a picture of the Statler City Peregrine Falcon family on May 16th. After doing some research, I don't believe mom and dad have names. I did see in another photo a band on the dad - the black band on top had the number 14 and the green band below I think is 11 but I can't be sure.
