I always love hearing about how well they are doing! She also had a good message about donating on your tax forms. Indiana does that also.

I have been reading about this Eagle I got this article today in email
This is really a RARE case that is called Mike with WNV
Eagle with rare birth defect now fighting West Nile

A bald eagle born with a rare birth defect has become the longest to live in Utah County after being diagnosed with West Nile virus.

"This is our third or fourth bald eagle with West Nile. Usually they die within two days," said Patti Richards, founder of Great Basin Wildlife Rehabilitation, a nonprofit where state wildlife officials send wounded or sick wild animals. Eagles with the virus usually "seizure up and tremor. It's terrible to watch."
But one bald eagle, nicknamed Mike by staff here, is holding out hope that he can become the first at the rehab to beat the disease. And it just might be because Mike knows how to fight for his life.
"He has no nostrils," said Richards. "None."
A rare birth defect has left Mike without air holes in his beak. Bewildered caretakers had to study him intensely to figure out how the eagle was getting air.

"He breathes out of his tear ducts," she said.

Mike was also born with only two working talons on each foot -- eagles should have four, three in front and one in back.
"He has survived this long with these disabilities," Richards said. "You've got to see it to believe it."

Mike came to the rehab center after being found by a family in Saratoga Springs who delivered the deathly ill bird to Richards in a laundry basket.

Richards calls Mike "a champ of an eagle" because he has fought not only the virus but his birth defects.

"The fact that he has lived almost four years is astronomical," she said
.

New peregrine falcon box in place at Milton-Madison Bridge
Milton Kentucky

by WHAS11
WHAS11.com
Posted on February 20, 20
MILTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – There is a new nest for the peregrine falcons that have made the Milton-Madison Bridge their home over the years.

The new falcon box was placed on the underside of the new bridge over the water. Falcons have been making the bridge their nesting spot since 2002.

During construction of the new Milton-Madison Bridge steps were taken to protect the falcons. As construction forged ahead, a falcon box was located on old pier #5. This particular pier was not going to be re-used and two weeks ago the pier was demolished.

The falcon box will remain attached to the truss when the new bridge slides onto its refurbished piers, which is expected to take place in March.

This could be interesting, there is a cam from shore line but it has all kinds of controllers to zoom & pan.

EAGLE BAITING: Photographers Use Sling Shot For Perfect Shot
Some bald eagles in eastern Iowa got some help catching dinner from photographers hoping to catch the perfect shot.
“We might be cheating a little bit but it would be a long afternoon if we waited for them to fish on their own,” photographer Larry Tibbet explained.
Wildlife photographers have been flocking to LeClair near the Quad Cities where hundreds of eagles are nesting.
Photographers got tired of waiting for great action shots so they helped create them by using a slingshot to launch fish out onto the ice.
When the birds swooped down, the cameras were ready.
It’s not illegal to “bait” for eagles as long as the fish are purchased from a licensed dealer.

Even though it is not illegal, it does not seem right. Especially now with bonding, mating, egg laying etc.

My favorite quote: "...it dropped the prey – a natural reaction when challenged by a larger, more aggressive bird."

On a serious note, I am glad this did not end disastrously for either osprey or aircraft. And I hope they don't go removing osprey nests as a result...
