I noticed since he came to Hamilton he's preferred the farther ledges - we may have a change of nest location this year.

Me too Bev it's 4.57 am and I am up already. Thank you SGB, that's amazing! Did they use purple USFW though? I thought they used silver?

I didn't see any mention of right band color. I'll go back and double check later on today.

I kept thinking that if they did it back then, then who else did this. It looked like that PA was allotted the P/number series. I wonder if some other state was allotted the P/letter series. I guess time will tell..

I don't have much viewing time today and even less tomorrow...

I've been following the cams for many years but wasn't really familiar with the banding specifics until I starting poking around yesterday trying to find our mystery female.

Is it possible the green over black was placed in reverse by mistake by whoever banded her? And should have been black over green?

If so, I see a bunch of sequential combinations in the Midwest Database - mostly in Michigan. Are the bands usually distributed in sequential "batches" to areas/cities close by to each other? Sorry, hard to phrase my question properly but it makes sense in my head hehe!

I found a *P/*C female (named Trixie) born in 2008 at Kent County Courthouse Grand Rapids in Kent, Michigan.

I found a *P/*D female born in 2009 at the Port Sheldon JH Power Plant (now Consumers Energy Campbell) in Ottawa, Michigan.

Could our g/b *E/*P actually be a b/g *P/*E who is possibly *P/*D's sister? But for some reason missing from the database?

Gah! The suspense is killing me :girlcrazy:

They are usually distributed in batches...and yes...a band number can be missing. That's what happened when were were trying to ID one of the birds in Topeka, kansas. Not only was the band number missing from sequence, but it was banded the wrong gender. I ended up emailing the biologist in Nebraska...because that was the closest sequence I had found in the data base...and sure enough, it turned out to be one of theirs!!

The other possibility is that *P/*E or "*E/*P is really a sibling of a F, G bird...and that nest is not in the data base...

Sure looks that way!! I'm sure there are several people that are contacting the appropriate agencies as we speak. Hopefully, they will get a better pic of that band...and maybe some of the numbers off the federal band..but, that may be harder to do..

Could also be Lily born at the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power, MI in 2010. Her band in the database is listed as P/E but this could have been made in error (and should have been *P/*E)

Image

Even more convincing, I found a baby picture posted in the "MISC. USA FALCONS- JUNE-DECEMBER 2010" thread of a Grand Haven 2010 chick with Green on Black bands! :sum5: Could this be her? (viewtopic.php?f=421&t=603&hilit=grand+haven&start=20)

That black band looks like a "P", can't really tell what the green band is for sure..

Yes of course.. it's all just fun speculation right now. Although the picture associated with that same site and year is pretty clear that the band colors are reversed and letters (at least the the "P") are sideways. So it'll be interesting to know what they say. Looking forward to it!

bratalishus - We are aware that Lily is a possibility and have spoken to Michigan and are in process of contacting the bander for confirmation. The bander entered the information so we can't make assumption that he or she made an error - it could very well be that the band information in the database is correct. Until we speak to the proper authorities it's best to assume the information is accurate.

Unless you have a better than you posted, I'm sorry but I just don't see the green band - it is cut off in the photo you posted.

Edit: never mind, found a better photo and will send off to Michigan for back up, thank you for your assistance. Much appreciated.

Ya know what's a little strange about this...and just supports reporting errors...there was also a male chick at this nest that year..I went back and looked at our calendar for that year..

In 2010 we had three chicks in Grand Haven.. photo with two chicks.

http://s328.photobucket.com/user/ljames ... 9.jpg.html

In 2011 was only one chick, and that was probably that male chick - Popcorn.

In 2010, there were 3 eggs, but just 2 hatches...back then (If I remember correctly), this wasn't an easy cam to watch..

I think Grand Haven has a couple of nests..so, the question is, which nests has the cam..

And to add even more confusion to this issue, there are 2 articles about the 2010 banding. Both articles list the J. B. Sims Generating facility as the location...and while both articles are quite similar, the details are different: 1 chick banded vs 2 chicks..LOL. Maybe the plant is large enough for 2 nesting pairs? Who knows..

Links to the articles:

Yep...We've always had a tough time with Grand Haven...even the past few years when the cam has been great, just trying to get confirmation on the resident female's bands..
