Hi Everyone! :hi:

I am an old follower from way back in the Ma and Pa, and then S2 days. I sort of disappeared when we lost our precious S2 :cryinggirl: I came back to see how Pa is doing, and now I am finding out that we lost Pa. So, is there any history somewhere that I can read about the happenings at this nest since S2? I remember VieVie, but thought she had been chased off with injuries a long time ago?

It is so great to see you back, Lorgayle...

Gosh...a history? So much has happened here...but most of the drama has occurred this season. Pa is still the father of the chicks, but right before hatch, several males moved in and challenged his nest. We are hopeful he is still out there...

The current male is VM...well, that's what we are calling him. Here is the synopsis that mwplay put together on 4/30:

Pa was displaced by VM, an UNBANDED male

VM was displaced by the male known as VM2/1R/2O (VM=visiting male, 1R because the VM2 had 1 ring, and once ring was read, it was determined it was 2O from VV & Pa's 2013 clutch. The same day we had major fighting at the tower, I think we thought there were 3 - 4 birds in skirmish. One had an orange ring. From what I understand, 2O had an orange ring at banding. So I wonder if that band was lost during the battles?)

    We had hatch.

2O had been male on site and things calmed down.

Well, attacks started day or 2 ago and appears 2O has been displaced and it is said that VM is back.

Last night (4/29-4/30 local), bird ends up in cabinet per Bev's reporting. We thought it was 2O, but now, I think it may have been VM BECAUSE, VM used to sleep in the box with VV every night!

VV is just going with the flow.

In my opinion, 2O would take the leftovers once VV has finished feeding. He would watch patiently from the porch.

It seems VM likes to steal from her while she is feeding or once she arrives with food. During 1 feed, it seemed like she fed him more than the kids! Bev reported she saw VV feeding 2O also, but I personally didn't. I did see him sort of block her, by him standing in front of the kids. But, I trust Bev because she records the feeds.

Since her 4/30 summary, VM is learning more and more how to be a dad. Needless to say, VieVie wins the mother of the year award for how she has handled all of this, taken care of, and protected her babies. I've been busy with other nests, but I am sure those more familiar with everything can fill in all the blanks.

If you have lots of time, all prior years can been found in the archives...

Wow, thanks SKB! I looked for Archives but didn't find them. I'll go look again. :)

Edit: Found the archives. I'll poke around and see what I've missed.

Good to be back to one of my favourite nests :)

nice pictures an videos. did not have time today to post mine, but will try tomorrow.

Nice to see you Lorgayle

I have been trying to update everyday. tomorrow may be sketchy for me.

I try to get the feeds as that is so important. VV is just amazing

a bit of history

2OR was here after S2( S2, we all came to adore), 2OR laid eggs and then she was ousted by VV. we thought 2OR dead, so there were no chicks that year. Pa incubated for a long , long time.

but the next year VV had eggs, 2OR came back ( I grew to like her) but she was defeated again and sh e unfortunately died.

VV has been here ever since.

SGB has filled you in on the season thus far. VM is proving himself more and more each day.

one thing I have learned is that we all get attached to our favorites, but the nest site is what must continue. and each falcon has a legacy at the site. Ma , S2, 2OR, Pa, they have all passed on their knowledge . VV was taught well by Pa and she will pass this on to VM. I believe Pa is still alive bu t he will always be a part of this site. :egg17: :egg17:
