Have any "curly"-feathered chicks ever been reported before?

I was trying to imagine the absolute madness that must take place in nests that have 4 or 5 chicks... :girlcrazy:

And in the future, trying to keep track of them without bands?

Thanks for going back and checking, Swinwk...as I said, Blaze being hatch #1 was strictly subjective...it didn't come from me but what was being said while Blaze was getting her bands. Maybe later on we identified something differently...I just never made it that far to see if we agreed or disagreed..

You must have missed my post on the previous page..yes. Last year, hatches 2 and 3 were both Curly feathered chicks at hatch..

Trying to keep up with who is who without bands? Yup..its really hard, but I guess if you watch them grow daily, you kinda learn subtle differences between chicks..whether its personalities, feet color, size, etc...when I open a cam that I don't watch on a daily basis, I am clueless to who anybody is..

Vlu328, as far as I know, Columbus 2014 was first time with BCAW members. EDIT: Sorry, didn't see your above answer.

Me too!!! Okay, I'm going to get ready to go to the zoo. Always the last minute, I was going to get ready this morning, see how our love for these birds control our lives? :teehee:

I'm sorry, I was about as clear as mud there! I meant at nests other than Columbus. Durand and Spark have now had 3 of their 7 chicks born "curly". It makes me wonder if it is genetic and if it means anything (besides another way to tell the little ones apart.)

Vlu328, check out the archive section for Columbus 2014. There was a discussion of such and that some members thought was nutritional in the end.
