June 15, 2015 Monday afternoon Shepnotes

OK ladies - wadya think? I watched full screen several times.
Rusty's overnite Fledge - this happens REAL FAST
A THUMP is heard - then you hear a parent flying toward nestbox screaming, passes box, Rusty dives out of box after parent.
Coulda been a GHO - it cuda landed on top of box, cam or out on perch. we dont know.
It may have returned to box - to again be chased off
I DEFINITELY saw 2 birds fly between cam and box - whether both parents or GHO and one parent I dont know
Parent lands later on extension and sqwawwwwwwwwwwwkkkkkssssssssssss

11 am perch feed - mom out on extention makes Garrett on corner stretch as she feeds him
- I wish GSB'd been there to zoom that

Cont'd - Some comments on GSB cam SS is why Im posting a couple things
The parents are both busy feeding all 4 kids

The bugs appear pretty bad - but is that bad? Its time to fledge and they're too comfy in the box :)

Rusty will NOT return to the nestbox for at least a week or more - if ever.
The young sometimes return the following year.

2.30 pm raptorresource
It was startled and instinctively reacted. I don't recall a night fledge before...
...but cameras have opened up a whole new world for us. The flight looked confident.

SS comment - LOL
'Rusty wanted to help MaMa kick some butt!'

3.15 pm Parent just flew down - probably to feed Rusty
- all 3 began looking down and screaming

3.20 pm Parent perched on top of cam

GSB June 16, 2015 Tuesday Shepnotes
3.30 am I see Michele perched outside, Garrett on outer corner and 2 sisters inside
4 am M moves to outer perch, Garrett preens
4.15 am M flew out of cam view - in the dark
4.35 M drops prey into box and flees the screamers
5.30 Garrett is flapping a lot on outside corner perch - he is READY to GO!
Once one fledges the parents want them ALL downstairs where it'd be easier to protect them from owls, eagles.
Those gnats might encourage them to leave that box.
5.45 am Several times BigSis has put her foot outside box on the new beam. Without it she may have fallen downstairs.
- BigSis is very active - inside box. Boy is she BIG. OK she is finally perched on box edge facing out.
- If cam wasnt SO BLURRY, I'd take a snip. Beautiful dawn.
Every time Rusty screams from downstars, COME ON DOWN! - the 3 upstairs scream back at him.
Michele's been siting on cam or extension perch - perhaps waiting for Travis to bring home the bacon - or - pigeon
6.20 M just made a sudden dive off perch - either hunting or to Rusty

Cliff swallows are happily flying around de-bugging the air. I wonder how many of those the falcons eat.
6.50 am AWESOME!! Saw BOTH parents swooping in the air! right in front of nestbox
6.53 am BigSis in flapping, Garrout out

Strange thing about the falcons screaming - I still hear them - even after I mute :egg16:

Good morning Shep, thank you for the report. I just finished watching our rowdy bunch! They are so loud. LOL Anyways I am feeling bad about the bugs for these poor juvies! I wish the juvies would get on their merry way. Will they get ill from the bugs at this stage in their life? :girlsad3:

Good morning...Just watched Mom beak feed the 2 in the box...and yes, the swallows are very active today...Hope they stay off the Falcon menu...we need them to grab every bug they can!!!

I have put an X about where I believe Rusty is - maybe not quite that near hiway
That is Michele's trajectory - and would be where Rusty'd likely land.

noon All 3 look sleek n ready, Sis keeps testing the perch out outside. She will perch on side of box.
- She looks down a lot, whether watching Rusty, ponderng jump or both I dunno

Garrett spent the night outside on the corner, 2 girls inside with Mom perched on guard in front
Shortly after 4.30 am Michele isnt on cam - I didnt see if she flew or moved out to perch extension
5 am The SCREECHING begins! Garrett is flapping, BigSis is stretching inside
5.15 am BigSis is a BULLY! You mean thang!! I name her B (for bully and BigSis, cmon, whatdya think?)
Little bitty Garrett went inside and B really went after him! MEANIE!
Garrett needs to GO, so does LilSis - I wish GSB'd get band so we know if she is Nina or Liz
- I bet LilSis will be Nina - wait n see
5.25 am YAY! Both G and LilSis OUTside perchs! B is perched edge of box

NOW is when we need that doublecam pic - one or both may go befor 7.30

5.27 lol - LilSis scrambled OVER G to get back inside!
5.40 am Its B who starts the screaming. All 3 are READY to GO

5.45 am Mom drops off prey, tug o war, G goes in, Mom didnt escape fast enuf, one kid pecked her toe
- She probably fed Rusty first, which set these 3 screaming - its obvious they can see Rusty

6 am G outside on his corner, Lil joins him cautiously, they kiss, Lil goes back inside
I believe Garrett is eyeing that Rock Ledge diner where Travis sits

7 am Garrett has moved right. Wish politics'd do that! G is now eyeing the jump up to top of cam or roof
- B is freaking out alone inside
Garrett flew to the extended perch - on the other side of Lil who is in G's spot - B is really jealous!
If Garrett doesnt fledge away today I will be very surprised.
G bobs his head as he hears the call of the wild and eyes a landing spot
8.15 am The 2 on the extension went inside - maybe they'll nap

cat - that is a very nice pic. The beauty of this cam is just awesome!
I am taking too many pics! But this stage passes so fast - POOF - gone forever

I am seeing two on the stick and one in the box. I'm just not sure if one of the two on the box is an adult.

* Some on the SS are calling the big girl inside - Elizabeth, so I am going to go with that - until its proven otherwise.
10.38 am Garrett is out at the end of the extension preening - hopefully to take his flight
12.30 pm One is whining - with parent on perch. I wonder if its Garrett wanting food which Michele wont provide til he fledges. ONLY my guess. Mom knows he's ready and she wants them all downstairs as soon as the first fledges.
kids seem confused Mom isnt bringing home much bacon. smart mom. dont feed, they'll exit
1.30 pm BOOKENDS again, Garrett on one corner and Nina on the other - Liz inside
3 pm Garrett is flying from box to the outer end of the extension and back - smarty pants
Nina is out then in - kinda timid
Liz is just LOUD - kinda like Toni in 2013

GSB June 18, 2015 Thursday Shepnotes
The 4 kids have 4 very distinctly different temperaments! They remind me a lot of the 2013 kids.
2.30 am Nina and Liz inside, Garrett on roof, Mom directly in front of box on perch
The most activity seems to be between 5 and 7 am. Good thing I wake early
4.13 am The SCREECHING begins as Liz screechs in Mom's face and Mom exits perch
- Its a new moon not a full moon, so falcons must see better in dark than humans. This is also still owl hunting time.
4.30 am Gar stomps around roof and preens - hopefully preparing to join Rusty
4.50 am Nina came outside to near corner perch and Gar does yoga on the roof. Liz perched on box edge facing in.
5.38 am All 3 scream to be fed, Gar roof, Nina outside corner, Liz inside (Who called - assume your positions?)
- That corner has belonged to Nina since Rusty fledged and Gar - um - expanded his horizons
5.50 am Gar made a beautiful flight roof to cam, spread his wings, and ...... blue circle (I screeched!) - he's back in box
- Gar's flown all over that box, cam, roof now - he shud be able to LEAVE it!
6 am Mom arrives with brekky - and beek feeds each from extension
6.09 am All 3 juvies OUTside - both corners and extension
