From Pitt Peregrines FB page

Silver is up and in the center keyhole. Dorothy is on the railing above. E2 is below in his ornate window.

Just heard him yelling, then Dorothy turned around & looked, then she took off from the perch. Wonder if he lost his balance. Hope if he fell it was onto the ledge. :egg14:

Edit: He's OK. He started yelling again.

Thanks for the great captures & videos yesterday! I also don't like the empty box, Bev, but at least he's near the box & we can hear him yelling so we know he's OK. He's done a little yelling this morning--probably telling mom its time for his breakfast!

He started doing some major screaming so I flipped over to the cam & see that Dorothy is at the box with breakfast. Now she left with it, so I hope she went to him & is feeding him. I think it sounds like he's being fed.

According to FB about 7 min. ago.. "Silver" took the leap again and has been picked up by PA Game Commission... and yet another post had him on a windowsill...I've seen no confirmation of either of these .so, stay tuned..

Just posted by John English on the FB page:

Silver in now in the hands of the PGC. He was found on a ledge of Hillman Library. They may take him for a medical exam.

Thanks for the updates, SGB. I was wondering why I didn't hear him on cam. I'll be interested in hearing the whole story--it sounds kinda strange that he was rescued from a windowsill, unless he hit the ground then flew onto the windowsill. :egg13:

No clue..there aren't any details. Hopefully Kate will update her blog later with better info...

Kinda reminds me of Blaze grounding so much last year at Columbus...

I misread your post, SGB. You said he was on a ledge & I was still thinking windowsill. Must have been a low ledge. When Reenie & Sue were watching him a few days ago, they said it didn't look like all of his flight feathers had "unfurled" yet. I wonder if that's the problem. :egg16:

Outside My Window
On His Way To Rehab
Published by Kate St. John at 6:55 pm

This afternoon the Pitt peregrine chick flew for the second time and landed, unscathed, on the patio at Hillman Library. Though Fledge Watchers were on the scene from noon to 2:30pm we missed him again, though we did see his parents.
Silver’s second flight was another straight down drop from the nest location, a vertical distance of 400 feet. In the 14 years I’ve monitored this nest, we have never had a fledgling land on the ground on his first flight, let alone his second.
This unusual performance was puzzling to the PA Game Commission so they took a very close look at the bird. Silver wasn’t injured by his two trips but his right wing has a feather-growth defect that explains why he can’t fly well. Officer Puhala called me to say he had recovered the bird at Hillman Library and the defect is sending the fledgling to rehab.

I am so glad these guys are on the ball. I just hope they figure this out at Columbus also.

hopefully she can go through full molt . Our biologist has done this with a few and then they learn to hunt with a falconer( he calls it a french molt)

Poor silver but he was found and now can get care. I am just glad he has come this far. Dorothy has done well by her.

Guess we have this covered--I came here to post the same thing. Ya know, I don't know whether it was here I posted it or on Facebook, but Sue & Reenie were discussing the feather problem on Facebook, so they noticed it right away. (I'll have to let them know they were right.) Not that it matters, but I wonder whether this came about because of the parasites or from Dorothy flipping him with that wing. Poor little guy--maybe he would have been a superior flyer if he had all the feathers he needed. Well, he will have to wait a long time to fly & unfortunately won't be able to learn from his parents, but at least he's safe.

I, personally, am so glad he is ALIVE, and was picked up. I dreaded checking the board in fear I would see bad news. I guess because I was really pulling for this little one in my heart. After we had seen the feather issue, I wondered if they knew it and left him in the nest, just in case this is D's last baby. I know that's a terrible frame of mind, but I just thought maybe they thought he'd never get this far.

ANYWAY... so, I realize it will be a bit before he gets to fly, but at least he will be cared for.

So, I'm relieved he was "unscathed" and so happy our little underdog made it this far.

Silver tag was not put back at the nest because of Dorothy's status. Dorothy isn't aware of her age. The fact is, babies are almost always better off with their parents. That's why they put him back at the nest. And rest assured, the situation was being continually monitored.

2 things to clarify...those were John English's words, not mine about the location...I guess I did a poor job posting his quote..oops

secondly, mwplay and I noted the wing issue several pages back..I even posted pics..and a diagram of the wing. After looking at the pics that Kate posted, I also wonder if he lost some prematurely. he also had a droopy right wing...I guess its all a moot point. It does make me wonder how that was missed when they picked him up the first time. ..I wish I had put 2 and 2 together after the first rescue...but, I totally forgot about the feather issue.. :thud

I am so glad he is alive...and thankful that he is in rehab..I do feel bad for Dorothy and E2... :eggsad:

It looks like he could be in the same situation as Flash (Columbus)...Hopefully the follicles (?) will be there so that he can grow new ones at next molt..yikes..that's a year...unless they can imp some in for him?

Yes, now that you mention it, I do remember you posting about the droopy wing before. Why is it that I can remember something that was posted years ago but not something that was posted a couple of pages back? :egg13: It is just very fortunate that he wasn't injured before the people in a position to take action discovered the problem. Too bad he & Flash can't be in rehab together so they would at least have somebody to play with while they wait for their molt.
