It's breakfast time for Laysan Albatross Niaulani and Dad is home to deliver a mixture of squid oil and other fishy solids.

And so they left...
The young are quite big and well fed because the female only has two beaks to fill. It will yet be slome time to the fledging, certainly a couple of weeks.

Good luck in the harsh world outside!

Niaulani fledged this morning 156 days post-hatch. She will now spend the next 3-5 years traveling the open oceans before returning to land.

Alaska is experiencing a large die-off of murres, and biologists, citizen scientists, and wildlife rehabbers have all pitched in to try to determine the cause and rescue surviving birds........

Sandhill Crane Cam Arizona

Don't Move A Mussel!
Sandhill Crane Cam

The Crane Clock: Best times to view Sandhill Cranes

The best times to view sandhill cranes on the wildlife camera will be from daylight until about an hour afterwards before they have left the roost to feed for the morning. They will return to Whitewater Draw sometime in the late morning, generally before noon. The cranes will remain at the wildlife area for the remainder of the day and should be visible. Please note that we will do our best to keep the camera trained on cranes and other interesting subjects however sometimes wildlife is uncooperative. If there is not much happening when you visit the camera, please check us again soon. The camera will be available for public viewing from October (when cranes first start to arrive at Whitewater Draw) through March or early April when they leave for their northern migration to the nesting grounds.

I have been there - early March 2014! Just awesome. In addition to the cranes I got to see Mama Great Horned Owl as she peaked over the top of her nestbox while incubating. Many other birds and waterfowl. It is a birder's paradise!!
