Very sad news to report... :sorrow:

Posted on the blog today...

Lilly was found dead..

Unfortunately, just a few short days after being named, Lily (B/90) (shown below) was found dead on the 5th floor balcony roof of the WoodmenLife Tower. It appears that she hit a window.

The remaining birds continue to fly off the roof of the WoodmenLife Tower and are routinely rescued when they land – which is normal. Birds have been recovered from the sidewalk, alleyway, parking garage, nearby Courthouse lawn and the 5th floor balcony. Each time, the birds are recovered and placed on the WoodmenLife Tower roof where mom and dad continue to feed and nurture them. - See more at:

Today I asked about the three chicks on their Woodmanlife FB page. Here is their response.

Yes! We just received an update yesterday: Max our male chick seems to have taken flight, and we haven't seen him for about a week. The remaining two females: Charlotte and Penelope have had a few issues: one seems to have broken her collar bone and the other one was caught up in a net on a nearby building, and seems to have gotten a little thin. Both have now been taken to Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery and are safely recuperating.

The other Omaha nest update:

Omaha’s three newest peregrine falcon chicks now have names.
The chicks’ hatching surprised falcon watchers this spring when it was discovered at a long-empty nesting box atop the Omaha Public Power District’s North Omaha Station.
Not surprisingly, the names of the power plant chicks all relate in some way to energy: Tesla, Edison and Einstein.
A panel of five plant employees picked the names from among more than 150 entries in a public naming contest, according to a post on OPPD’s website. The young birds have begun testing their wings, flying from stack to stack as their parents circle overhead.
The nesting box was installed 10 years ago but had not been occupied. Employees began seeing a bird using the box last summer. But experts weren’t sure that peregrines, notoriously territorial birds, would nest so close to the long-established nesting box atop the Woodmen Tower in downtown Omaha.
Last week, the male falcon at the station was identified as Clark, a bird hatched in 2012 at the Nebraska State Capitol. He’s one of five Lincoln chicks that have been spotted as adults, including Mintaka, the resident male at the Woodmen.
This year’s single Capitol chick has been named Orozco in honor of Kerrie Orozco, the Omaha police officer slain in May in the line of duty.

From Facebook..posted about 1 hr ago:

2015 Falcon Watch: Yesterday, the two remaining female chicks, who have been in rehab, were released by Fontenelle Forest's Raptor Recovery from the roof of WoodmenLife Tower. Penelope was successfully released and immediately took flight. However, Charlotte did not, and will be taken back to the Raptor Recovery for additional rehab. While we were on the roof, we also saw Charity (mom), who landed on the roof when she heard Charlotte squawking

I sure hope Mom didn't attack Penelope!! YIKES..

:hithere: Hi Loza, thanks for the catches of the new girl. I think they have named her Charity... She likes hanging around her nest box, doesn't she?

Well I don't know what to think about this I just went to Database and it is saying that Charlotte has died also. FB shows picture 7/27/15

Per J Jorgensen: bird subsequently found dead.

Well, that's quite confusing, based on what I had posted earlier about Charlotte...

Here's a thought...I just looked at the database..it has her dying the exact same day as Lily, which I suppose is possible..but that would have to mean that the FB pics were really old and posted late. I guess the only way to know for sure would be to either email Joel or Woodmen..
