Here are a few clips from Saturday's 2 p.m. feeding. Full crops all around. They are aggressive and healthy, and two even take a stab at self-feeding while Red Girls is feeding the oldest.

It is amazing how little of the prey goes to waste. The leftovers will be eaten or cached

That is a GREAT video, Dave. Looked like the chicks were ravenous. That prey was pretty good sized. Half looked like a Coot. Noticed that Red Girl scarfed down the feet at the end. :-)

Just checked the cam to find four VERY well fed chicks. Their crops are enormous. Red Girl is busy preening right outside the box. Our chicks in Harrisburg are a couple days older and are beginning to show the Peregrine pattern on their faces.

Two of the kids were getting fed while two others were starting to explore the nest box.

Looks like Trinity is on guard at the moment while the chicks are in the corner right beneath him. Two chicks standing and picking at themselves, the other two are zonked out.

Wilmington

One of the chicks really went exploring this morning. He/she walked all the way to the lower right corner of the nest box and disappeared from sight.

All four chicks are back in their usual spot in the corner now. SO glad to have two cameras to choose from. Red Girl is right outside the box, busy preening.

At 11:40 am EDT this morning I stepped out of the Hotel Du Pont on the 11th Street side and immediately could hear angry peregrine screeching from the northeast beyond the 1105 N. Market office building. A big female peregrine (not the caller) was approaching from the east (toward the Delaware River), about two or three hundred feet up. The screeching bird (Red Girl?) rose into view (probably from the 1201 N. Market building where Kim works) and went straight after the intruder. The intruder immediately retreated south over Rodney Square, out of sight behind the Hotel, with the defender in hot pursuit. Within three minutes the defender returned to her perch on the 1201 N. Market building.

The intruder (if she’s the same bird people have been seeing) is persistent but for now she seems to know her place.

Thanks for your eyes on report, Greg. Makes you wonder if that persistent intruder is a bird from a previous year.

Thanks for posting that great picture, Terka. I know these chicks are well fed, but I have yet to see a feeding when I tune into the cam. The chicks are beginning to get their Peregrine facial markings. :-)

Greg - Thanks for the news yesterday. I sure hope the intruder got the message to stay away from downtown Wilmington!

Terka - Great picture of the feeding yesterday.

Dave - Wonderful video from this morning. I loved the action and your captions. Too bad a catbird was on the menu.

loza - Thanks for the pictures and video from this afternoon. You're right about the one chick that's very active.

I caught some action this afternoon as the chicks moved from one corner to another. It did take awhile, however, until they all ended up in the other corner.

Tuned in to the cam a bit ago to find a feeding underway. The chicks were such polite eaters, each waiting for Red Girl to feed them. Got the impression they might now have been very hungry. Red Girl was positioned in a way that clearly showed her red tape is still there. And my thanks too for the earlier videos and pictures.

Here's a link to a video of the morning feeding on Monday. The two smallest continue to hold themselves back while the stronger two feed. When food is plentiful they will get enough. If times get tough and the food supply gets short the strongest will have a good chance of surviving.

That is nature's way.
