10:30 am~I gotta get ready to leave, but it appears that Yankee is on the egg...and while I can't see his head, he does appear to be panting, but not terribly so...plus he's periodically getting the sun.

Current temps:

75 F/24 C

Now respiration appears normal

Mom? is brooding, can't see her head, but does not look like s/he's panting.
(Interesting that this egg is closer to the front of the nest (rather than the back) than the last clutch.)

(Added: PM left on FB page, phone message left for Connie Adams (I hope) referring both to this forum; I will be out until later this afternoon.)

Dixie is standing over her egg and although I can't see her face I can tell by the movement of her chest that she is panting! It is humid today in Buffalo and overcast right now so I guess now we will have to speculate. Is it the weather or the hot box or both.

I've just finished writing emails on their behalf to several people. I am considering sending something to Governor Cuomo's office. I guess it couldn't hurt!

2:07 p.m.
Yankee brooded for about 2 minutes and spread his wings wide but just left the box for the perch.

2:53 p.m.
Yankee went back to his egg just now but then left after a couple of minutes. I wonder if the pebbles are so hot he can't stand very long on them. Thinking aloud!

Still on right perch, close to porch.

3:50pm
Yankee (?) on perch, has come in and gone back out again.
No panting.
3:51pm
Back to the egg, checking it.

I getting ready to leave but the thought occurred to me that Dixie and Yankee suffered and their babies all died because of the nest box heat from the new generator in the building. People knew this and didn't step in to help............... WOW!

I may have to contact the news stations in town today. I am madder than a hatter over this !!! And then I get I private message this morning that I am telling blatant lies about this nest. I've told no lies but I sure as heck wondered what was happening like everyone else. What is going on here? We've all been speculating like crazy what could be wrong and someone knew and wouldn't tell us!!!!! We are all adults and can handle the truth and maybe just maybe knowing all of this we could have helped in some way........

:gaaaaah: :gaaaaah: :gaaaaah:

PS Please forgive but I misspoke when I mentioned a generator above. The problem from what I gather has something to do with their new system and vents possibly creating heat in the nest box. I a, not backtracking here I just wanted to set the records straight on my use of the word "generator." I know very little about heating systems, etc. but I do know something was and perhaps still is wrong with Dixie and Yankee's home! I will not back down from this for a moment. Yes, things in nature can get ugly but this problem seems to be man made and I think it needs to be addressed and apparently many people agree!
Thank you for listening........

No worries Sally, you care very much for Yankee and Dixie so no need to apologize. I don't know if they know what is causing the issue with the box, maybe they are waiting on the results of the egg analysis? I expect if they wanted to move the box, that would involve more permits and then of course permission from the Uni to move it somewhere, etc. So may not be a 'fast' fix. On the plus side, at least your pair look to be in good health and that's something to be thankful for.

Thank you Carly. I think I have to call it a night because I am crying over this whole thing! The one thing I want to accomplish is that we do not have a repeat of what happened the first time around. But you are right they both look healthy and I am very thankful for that. It's real hard to see any creature suffer especially if it can be prevented. No more from me tonight. I've said enough.

Rest well everyone!

Sally

7:30am Finally got a look in the box - parent near egg and panting.
(not hard brooding, can't see face, but body movement indicating panting)

I expect we'll see panting now more due to the heat and humidity outside given the time of year, I wouldn't expect the plant to be producing any heat now as they don't need it.

Thanks, Carly. It's 73F there right now, and the sun is shining in the box - and s/he is panting. Could something (machinery?) be "generating" heat that's entering the box? Sure wish we knew.

(Also, no response to my phone message or email yesterday morning(early holiday weekend, maybe?) )

My cam views aren't making sense:
Cam 1 Shows parent facing out, hard brooding
Cam 2 Shows parent soft brooding, standing sideways (just moved from facing toward back with tail pointing to porch, (added 8:11am parent now facing toward wall)
Cam 3 Shows a parent on the right perch

(Have I lost it??? :girlcrazy: )

Will post what I see in a few minutes.

Maybe the only "Live" pic is cam 2 (middle cam on site page)???

Added: I can't decipher the times on the cams but the dates are correct. Maybe the times/cams aren't sync'ed?

Cams are out of sync for me too! It will be humid here for the next several days and I am sure they will be panting a lot!

More later.............
