Email From Laura today:
"Hello everyone
Attached are pictures of Magee. I went out to Mark's place for a goodbye visit today. Magee will be released at the end of the month (March) or thereabouts. He is doing well - Mark just wants to build a bit more muscle before he releases him. The release will be without any folks to witness it as Mark will likely drive south, find a wide open cornfield and let him go. Mark won't even hang around as he wants Magee to go without looking back. I will put a post out there on the blog soon and upload more pics to the Indystar website, but I wanted you all to know first. Mark said he would let me know when he lets him go.
Magee looks good but he is very quiet (I saw the other birds that Mark has for educational programs and boy, they were noisy - his male peregrine was raising heck and reminded me of how KathyQ yells at me!). He ate a day old chick while I was there. I saw him fly a bit and tried to get a picture but I wasn't quick enough.
It's been a long journey for the little guy and I hope he does well in the big wide world. Perhaps one day we'll be able to look him up in the midwest peregrine database and see that he is nesting somewhere and raising his own.

Laura"
First pic is of Mark holding Magee, the second one is of him eating...

Email from Leanne, whose office at Chase Tower overlooks Market Tower where the nest box is:
"K's Lovin @ 8:06 on SE corner of Mkt Tower. Love is in the air on warm southerly breezes. It's a great day."

Way to go, Kathy Q! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I think the egg is fine. Variations in pigmentation are quite common in peregrine eggs - for instance, one of Aisha and Felix's eggs is really pale.

From Richard (Kinnett?) on the blog:

". . . 18-17-00 first taken by me after Laura called. The date time stamp is about 24 seconds behind GMT but who cares about the exact time.
The egg is still wet in the photo and the color splotch is normal. I do NOT see any crack."

He stayed in that spot for a long time, even when it was storming last night. Our power went off so I am not sure when he left or if KQ finally invited him in!!

May 19 Banding day from the IndyStar!

Click for 2 videos

http://blogs.indystar.com/falconblog/archives/2009/05/video_of_bandin.html

I just visited the Indy Blog....here are the names and what was said about them!!!
Kinka - Female, band is *V/*X, black over green (the * indicates the letters lay on the side as you look at the band). This name was submitted by Brenda Schwab of Indianapolis. Kinka? Well, it is a very nice combination of the first part of the parents' name - Kin for Kinney and Ka for KathyQ. And with such an ingenious combination of names, we hope this little female will prove to be a superb combination of the Ks' genes. I hope we don't get confused while we monitor these young ones and yell out "There goes Kinky" but in the heat of the moment, that may be what comes out - I have been known to get pretty excited and get my words mixed up. So forgive me now Kinka if I flub, but if you have a smooth fledge process it may all be a moot point. Talons crossed.

Kinka & Bert Hanneman Falcon banding 2009, Bert was the kind person who rescued Magee last year

K.B. - Female, band is *W/*A, black over green (the * indicates the letters lay on the side as you look at the band). This name was submitted by Richard Kinnett of Indianapolis. This female is named in honor of one of the falcons biggest supporters but one who stays mostly in the background - Kevin Branch of Market Tower building management (Colliers Turley Martin Tucker) in appreciation of his support for the peregrines over the years. Kevin is moving on to a different assignment and this will be his last banding to oversee. Let me tell you folks, Kevin and the whole Market Tower management team make our lives easier as volunteers and continue to allow the most precious pair of falcons to call MT home on the 31st floor. Folks, the reintroduction of the peregrine falcon was all about partnerships with government agencies, corporations, the scientific world and ordinary citizens. These partnerships continue to this day even though the peregrine falcon has made a remarkable comeback. That's how special these birds are to so many concerned people. Thank you Kevin for all your help, support and enthusiasm and I hope K.B. will do you proud out in the big wide falcon world.

IndyFroona - Female, band is *V/*Y, black over green (the * indicates the letters lay on the side as you look at the band). This name was submitted by Diane Bottum of Lafayette, Indiana. Many falconheads who follow the Indy pair and other nest sites know who this female was named for. As Diane said, "I'd like to name her in honor of the recently deceased falcon lover and blogger extraordinaire from the Netherlands, Froona." Froona was quite remarkable and extremely passionate about falco peregrinus and sharing her love and knowledge about these birds with the world. Even though she lived in the Netherlands, she followed the Ks and reported on them on her website. She passed away in March but her legacy will continue with the probability that there will be many little falcons named Froona all over the world. We liked the idea that our little Froona will have a bit of her own identity and tell everyone where she is from. So IndyFroona, I'm sure you will have many folks rooting for your success and I hope, hope, hope you fly high and touch the clouds - with your pedigree and the good wishes of many folks around the world, we know you are capable of being a true falcon success.

Sully - Male, band is *S/*E, black over red (the * indicates the letters lay on the side as you look at the band). This name was submitted by Greg Mobley of Indianapolis. Wow, who can forget the amazing, incredible story of that plane landing in the Hudson River this past January? I can see that video over and over and over again and still think the plane isn't going to make it because it just isn't possible! But we know how that ended and it was due to the remarkable flying skills and cool head of Captain Chesley Sullenberger. So how appropriate for a falcon - a master of the skies - to be named after a master aviator. Please take heed, falcon Sully - you can do it! I know those first landings can be a dilly but keep a cool head and mark your spot...okay, I'll keep a cool head too while watching you, probably not, but I'll try. The story of the miracle on the Hudson was truly inspiring and I hope down the road that we will read of the falcon Sully with a happy ending.
