The egg is very beautiful. I have a capture too. I feel very apprehensive about the future of this egg!

I am going to try to make calls and/or write emails tomorrow to see if someone will investigate the box before another catastrophe occurs. Something is not right with this box and my feeling is that people in charge know this and have chosen to do nothing. It's a sad state of affairs to have a cam to educate and bring awareness to the public of the peregrine falcon and then when there is a man made problem with the nest that was created solely for the use of the falcons nothing can be done to help. What's up with that.........

I am not a crazy bird lady (maybe I am little bit but more so I get crazy about animal abuse). I know there are difficult things we have all witnessed with the peregrine falcons that come with the natural territory of their lives but this one seems so fixable. So why not fix it!?!?!?!?!!???!??!

Thank you Bonbon. NYS Department of Environment has a facebook page which I have used to private message them on the box. When the eggs were retrieved I wrote them and here was their response:

"Thank you for your observation and concern about the Peregrine Falcons at UB. We’d encourage you to contact our Wildlife Biologists with observations about wildlife directly. Connie Adams, who works with birds in Western New York, would be the best biologist to speak with about Peregrine Falcons. You can reach her by calling: 716-851-7010."

So anyways I called the BUffalo office and no one returned my call and then I emailed the Buffalo office and no one wrote back.

Tomorrow I am very determined to get through!!!!!!

Me 3...I sure hope that if there was something wrong with the box, that they have fixed it...its not getting any cooler out there so there will be little relief if that box is still an oven!!

Everything seems peaceful so far this morning at the nest. About a half hour ago Dixie and Yankee were mating..........

6:58am Parent just stepped away from the egg and is on the porch. Doesn't look like s/he's panting.

7:00am Nest/porch/roost empty.

Saw that Bonbon. I have an appointment this morning but I plan on watching as much as possible and also will attempt to talk to someone today about the nest. Maybe something got fixed and this time around will be the charm!!! Positive thinking on my part for sure! :egg13:

One more note I wasn't happy to find this out but at least my comments confirmed from someone that it has been the nest box all along overheating!

Goodness-Never thought we would see another egg...

I agree with everyone about this nest.
Something is not right.

I will also send a e-mail this am.

Thanks for the links Sally.

I getting ready to leave but the thought occurred to me that Dixie and Yankee suffered and their babies all died because of the nest box heat from the new generator in the building. People knew this and didn't step in to help............... WOW!

I may have to contact the news stations in town today. I am madder than a hatter over this !!! And then I get I private message this morning that I am telling blatant lies about this nest. I've told no lies but I sure as heck wondered what was happening like everyone else. What is going on here? We've all been speculating like crazy what could be wrong and someone knew and wouldn't tell us!!!!! We are all adults and can handle the truth and maybe just maybe knowing all of this we could have helped in some way........

Oh Sally....I really hate to hear that and makes me equally furious!!!

Clearly, both birds appear healthy and unless both birds were suffering from something temporary (and have since recovered) that only leaves one other explanation for what we were observing during incubation, and that is something was wrong with the box. Either it has been fixed (since I have seen no panting, so far) or whatever was creating the heat source is no longer needed, ie its getting warmer outside.

I still have no clear understanding of what that tower houses or how it is used.

(awwwwwwwwwwwwwww....Yankee just brought Dixie something to eat..)

Without a full explanation, I don't think we will ever know what happened...and therefore, all we can do is speculate...Heaven knows we documented well enough to know that while in the box there was respiratory distress..leave the box and no problem...I'm not a rocket scientist, but deductive reasoning tells me it was a box issue (or environment around the box)..not a bird issue. Facts (and pics) are hard to dispute and is hard evidence, not lies..Our speculations? Without up front communication, we were only left to speculate and theorize. That's what we do on this forum!! We document, report factual observation, and then try to figure out a cause.

I didn't get a pic of Yankee bringing Dixie a food gift...she was dozing peacefully on the egg when he arrived.

10:30 am~I gotta get ready to leave, but it appears that Yankee is on the egg...and while I can't see his head, he does appear to be panting, but not terribly so...plus he's periodically getting the sun.

Current temps:

75 F/24 C

Now respiration appears normal

Mom? is brooding, can't see her head, but does not look like s/he's panting.
(Interesting that this egg is closer to the front of the nest (rather than the back) than the last clutch.)

(Added: PM left on FB page, phone message left for Connie Adams (I hope) referring both to this forum; I will be out until later this afternoon.)

Dixie is standing over her egg and although I can't see her face I can tell by the movement of her chest that she is panting! It is humid today in Buffalo and overcast right now so I guess now we will have to speculate. Is it the weather or the hot box or both.

I've just finished writing emails on their behalf to several people. I am considering sending something to Governor Cuomo's office. I guess it couldn't hurt!
