Just heard a whine and then chupping by her. She really wants him to come down.

She knows he's on the roof. She just looked up and gave another whine followed by an e-chup. I understand from C&C that the whine usually means the falcon wants something to change. She is not pleased with his behavior.

Yep about the whine Nadia. I saw that in a post from C&C a while ago also. I am feeling bad for her........

Looks like the nest cam is ahead of the ledge cam, so you hear an echo when she vocalizes. He has yet to vocalize back.

They both flew off. I agree, I think she is upset and he does seem rude, to say the least. She's been with Spark for a number of years and he was very smitten with her. She is not used to this kind of behavior.

Interesting thought Carly. Wonder if Spark is still around and this guy is bigger or stronger.

this is why I suggested that this may be a femlae. this is a typical behavior of another cautious female.

I know , you all say this is a male , but at Edmonton in 2008, this is how Radisson claimed the site. she played, cat and mouse, Now we did not have the ledge, but she would go on the roof of box and just sit. Balzac girl, would go in box , look up, chup and whine. then Radisson would take off and go elsewhere, land different places. BAlzac girl, granted, had been in another fight, but she acted excited, just like Durand. as she was in a flap.

eventually , after several days, Radisson landed on the roof and then cane down, on perch in front and then they had a short battle. radisson was only 2 years old and she played it cautiously. She did not act very aggressive. ( that soon changed after a year at the site)
the whole time our male, just perched at a distance and would fly around. He did nto come to box.

I know I am out to lunch , but this is exactly how things happened at our site. So I am hoping this is male.

one more thought, do not count Spark out.. this last year has somehow passed by me but did we not have problems with the cams last year for a bit.

spark may just be on a little jaunt. thus the name wanderer( falcon).

so with that , I am away to stuff myself on turkey and stuffing and gravy. Three pounds later , and I will have pie also :leafwave: :leafwave:

That's an interesting point, Bev. Certainly worth consideration, but the pics posted of him don't show a brow ridge, particular to females. I could be wrong, but I think this is a male. Like Carly said, he may be cautious if he's battling for the territory. This would not be Spark's first skirmish. If you go back to Sky's video of March 5, 2015, Spark had a definite hole in the top of his cere that later healed. I wasn't with BCAW at the time, but I mentioned it on the CMNH site and wondered if he had been in a nasty battle, ending up with a talon puncture.

Lots of pics, with subtle differences. I haven't tired enlarging yet, but I don't have good editing software, but maybe somebody else does and may be able to enlarge some of these to at least get a partial band number.

Chances are this could be an Ohio bird...which (unfortunately) means the band # won't be in the Data base..

He went into the box around 8:21 am

6.32 pm and just tuned in to see someone sitting quietly on the ledge. Can't make out who it is but they just took off...looked like a D-dive from our dear Durand.

Hopefully SGB's photos show enough of the band for us to ID this bird. And let's hope he didn't come with a 'friend'. So many unknowns at this point.

This all feels like deja vu to me for some reason.

First off - Happy Thanksgiving! to all my Canadian bird friends.

Carly, I think it reminds us of Flyboy & Matrix. Remember years ago, the unbanded male that was Durand's mate. Remember he disappeared and Matrix (I think 19/B - ?) came on scene? We lost cams and that spring, Flyboy or another unbanded male was back. And he's the male that would disappear after eggs were laid - they ended up being infertile. I think that's right before Spark arrived. I think I have that right. I just hope Spark is on a mini vacation. I remember how lonely Durand was that winter with no mate/visitors.

Reminder that Catbird has done a fabulous job keeping up with the recent history of this nest.

More random pics from this morning...they are NOT cropped because I wanted to keep the time stamp on them. I have no idea how long this played out as I had to leave. Durand was echupping and bowing the majority of time I was recording this...and yes, the nest box is ahead of the ledge...its very confusing at times...LOL
