From Chris Martin at NH Audubon when I asked where Mom and Dad might be hanging out........................Many (but not all) adult peregrines in northern New England are migratory, departing the state for milder places from October to March. However, Manchester's adult peregrines often spend a lot of the non-breeding season perching on the tallest downtown buildings such as City Hall Plaza (900 Elm St.) and Brady-Sullivan Plaza (1000 Elm St.). Since the Single Digits cameras show less than 1% of Brady-Sullivan Tower (1750 Elm St.) where the nest box is located, they could still be around there frequently, too. Remember, the nest box is a place to raise young birds rather than a home for the adults to hang out in. You can expect to see them on camera much more frequently by February.
Also, you’ll probably be interested in 2 NH-banded peregrine falcons originally raised in Manchester, NH that have just recently been reported “downstream” in the Merrimack River watershed by Massachusetts wildlife photographers (see attached photos). On 11/17/2016, photographer Dan Prima located a 3.5 year old adult male falcon, “black/green 17/BD”, at Cherry Hill Reservoir in West Newbury, MA. “17/BD” fledged in 2013 and had been previously ID’ed in 2013, 2014, and 2015 in three other Essex Co., MA towns. And on 11/20/2016, photographer Doug Burgess found a juvenile female “black/green A/T” at the Parker River NWR on Plum Island. “A/T” was one of the females fledged this past summer and previously was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester, NH back in September. Both of these peregrines appear to be doing quite well.
