these 2 are doing so well. touch wood

today he brought her 3 food gifts. the last one a duck. He has always been a great provider.

I shall miss my other female. miss piggy , Gord callled her , as she go t so dirty in the coal dust. She was great female, even if she liked vents. She raised many chicks successfully here and we never heard of one no t making it. We love to go out there in the quiet countryside and watch them soar and feed.

this year will bring a new dynamic, so we will see what she does. We do not know if she has nested before. but what a success story for the hacking program.

the more we get out of the city , the better.

Recap of Genesee thus far

new female - M27
- born 2013 at Inland cement , Edmonton Alberta
- due to the need of a foster nest for 3 very young chicks, M27 and her 2 siblings were taken at
banding and prepared for hacking on Pembina. This is a great plus for the hacking program

male- - no bands ,but same male that has been there since 2012
- once again we know this from extensive observation over the years that he was here. We also go and observe this site from the ground ,to see where they roost and other habits they may have.

WE do not know the exact date they returned but they were there scraping and bonding from the moment the cams went up on April5-This tells us that they had been there for a few days at least. They have traditionally come back early here. I t is fun watching the many prey transfers thus far.

If there was a night light here ,we would see if she is spending the night ,as she is there at first light. We are watching for eggs.

This has always been a great site to watch. WE will miss 1/D ,as she was great female and successfully fledged many young.

we are looking forward to another great season

cannot believe I did nto post here

when cams are going, things look like they are on track. so frustrating to have cams swirling and going to DVR and to go black with retry button. ( not just this cam but all of our Edmonton area ones.

If I am not at home and do not catch it, I miss everything. And there are some of us documenting and have done so for years.

I guess when those responsible for cams are not monitoring them, they do not know what is happening.
but we monitor from ground and use cams to help us.

Like right now they are all swirling :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: .

we went out to genesee on april19. It is so nice to go into countryside to watch this pair. Yes, they are at a plant but such a beautiful area.

I forgot my camera :girlcrazy: but we had our binocs and scope. the male uses the same perch on the top of nesting stack. We saw a falcon to the right of him when we changed spots. You can not see the both at same time where our spotting places, are , so after watching for a few hours , we think the other spot is where female goes. It makes sense. She does not know the area and so she goes where he goes.

We saw lots of hawks . So we feel that is what you see her yapping about. The hawks will soon learn to stay on other side of road. We even saw hawks chasing other hawks out of area.
one hawk was flying close to ground , not far from stack, looking for snack. Our other female just gave them the look and they knew to be gone :egg11:

We saw one falcon fly from top of stack onto building corner just east of stack. We were not t sure who it was , till Emyrauld phoned us to say M27 had just come to nest. We missed her flight in . we know why after we saw her fly out and around. she soared and from where we were, ;you could barely see her drop and fly in. It was hazy.

very quiet day, but nice

since I forgot camera , I will look at some old photos of stack and buildings an put arrows where they were.

be back with them later.

Yikes, there was. I thought something was on top of the box, but didn't expect to see a falcon hop down. Nobody went after it until a few seconds later.

I started recording because I thought they were acting Odd. I couldn't figure out why they really weren't making eye contact..recording was too long, so I went back in the DVR...I'm thinking the "visitor" was the falcon on the perch? I have no clue. Nobody seemed terribly upset..no rapid kakking. I kinda thought something was on top of the box, but wasn't sure what...

Sorry this turned out to be longer than I thought.

I was watching. appears to be juvenile , by legs. you go t face . I did not. I htink it is all in what streaing you are on.

man , I thought we were going to have an egg.

We need this male. he is great. I am a wreck here. intruders at every site.

here is my video slow motion at end. this one was on the upper rail I think and jumped down and missed.that is another reason I think why I think juvenille. appears banded

turn off sound

I hope you're right, Bev...but, I didn't think it was a juvie...however, neither falcon on cam seemed particularly upset, so it must have been.

well, hopefully all is O.K. now.

it has been weird at Bell and weber also. We have these inturders popping in, same ones, but at first ,if you look way back at Bell, there was really no aggression. but Friday when intruder came to Bell, another story. same at Weber, one was coming in every night and our falcons would just took and watch and when it flew up higher and started soaring away, the male would go after it quick but no contact., no chupping. Friday night, both adutls chupped a lot . and male made sure it soared away, and femlae also went out to look.

Gord said at beginning, their hormones are just starting to get in gear, but after a few eggs, look out.

so we look to make sure our male comes back.
